Quest Diagnostics is hiring a Phlebotomist Group Lead - Hospital in Presque Isle, ME. This role is a hospital-based position at Northern Lights Hospital.

Pay range: $24.85 - $26.65 / hour

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Represents the face of our company to patients within the hospital systems at Quest Diagnostics, both as part of their routine health management or for insights into life-defining health decisions. The Group Lead, Phlebotomist must have a deep understanding and knowledge of established practices and procedures and create an atmosphere of trust and confidence in our patients, customers, clients and internal leadership. In addition, it requires a higher level of customer-facing skills including communications, problem-solving and collaboration with multiple functions. The Group Lead, Phlebotomist must ensure that the daily work of the Phlebotomy department is completed accurately and on time. The Group Lead, Phlebotomist will collaborate with leadership to direct daily hospital operations, coordinate inbound staffing and assignments, and aid in clarifying sample requirements. The Group Lead, Phlebotomist is also responsible for providing administrative support as needed. The Group Lead, Phlebotomist must function as a backup to the Supervisor and carry out duties and responsibilities in his/her absence. The Group Lead, Phlebotomist is expected to effectively navigate client interactions. The Group Lead, Phlebotomist demonstrates Quest Leadership Behaviors while focusing on process excellence skills and sensitivity to confidentiality and accuracy to patient information. Will be required to act as a coach, mentor, instructor, and resource advisor for new employees. They will also act as a point of contact to staff on-site and provide regular input to the supervisor. This role is held accountable for Phlebotomy activity, preparation and hand-off upon entry and exit of current and upcoming shifts. The Group Lead, Phlebotomist must portray leadership capabilities and a higher level of customer-facing skills including; verbal and written communications, problem-solving, and collaboration with multiple functions. The Group Lead, Phlebotomist must be capable of handling multiple priorities in a high-volume, fast-paced hospital setting. 

Responsibilities:

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all age groups.
• Must be able to perform the responsibilities and duties of a Phlebotomist III. 
• Administer oral solutions according to established training, such as Glucola.
• Data entry and processing of specimens including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order. 
• Perform departmental-related clerical duties when assigned such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, and answer phones when needed. 
• Facilitate and enhance new policies where applicable. 
• Consistently adhere to infection control and safety protocols to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
• Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs. 
• Responsible for completing all data entry requirements accurately including data entry of patient registration; entry of test order from requisition or pulling order from database; managing standing orders.  
• Complete training courses and keep up to date with the latest phlebotomy techniques. 
• Participate and/or lead special projects and teams.
• Stay up to date on company communications and assist with the distribution of technical information to the work group. 
• Assist with the preparation of schedules for the assigned workgroup.
• Communicate professionally with clients to resolve or refer, and document problems, prepare problem documentation and report critical issues as they occur. 
• Ensure staff follow all safety precautions by wearing a clean, button lab coat, gloves and face shield when required. 
• Assist supervisors with the implementation of SOPs and the distribution of technical information and communication to the workgroup in accordance with Quest Diagnostics guidelines. 
• Will be required to act as a coach, mentor, instructor and resource advisor for new employees, as well as be the point of contact to staff on-site and provide regular input to the supervisor. 
• Support the Problem Resolution Line and could be called to the field regarding a patient recollection, as needed. 
• Ensure facilities are neat, clean and in good repair, take appropriate action to advise Supervisor of required repairs and maintenance.  
• Rotate through inpatient, outpatient, physicians’ offices, and ED settings as scheduled or when applicable.
• Performs additional duties and responsibilities as needed. 
• Depending on site operations and model, Hospital Phlebotomists may also support pre-analytical laboratory functions, including but not limited to:
  • Receives, sorts, racks, and prepares specimens.
  • Picks up, transports, delivers, and manages pending specimens for technical departments in accordance with established workflows.
  • Packages and prepares specimens for send-out testing in compliance with regulatory, safety, and courier requirements.
  • Identifies issues related to specimen type, integrity, labeling, or missing/incomplete information during specimen sorting, racking, centrifugation, storage, and delivery.
  • Resolves specimen-related issues within the scope of the role or escalates concerns appropriately to ensure timely problem resolution and continuity of testing
  • Demonstrates understanding of compliance and regulatory policies related to test ordering and specimen handling.
  • Develops the ability to research test order information using translation tables, laboratory information systems, and the laboratory Directory of Services.
• Performs other related duties as assigned in support of pre-analytical operations.

Qualifications:

Required Work Experience: 

• 3 years Phlebotomy experience required, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
• data entry experience.
• Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime. 
• Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record, if applicable.

Preferred Work Experience: 

• Minimum 5 years of Phlebotomy experience preferred.  
• Phlebotomy experience within hospital environment.
• Medical training preferred. 
• Customer service and healthcare experience 
• Data entry experience.

Physical and Mental Requirements: 

• Lift light to moderately heavy objects. The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects. Objects in the weight range of 1 to 15 pounds are lifted and carried frequently; objects in the weight range of 16 to 25 pounds are lifted and carried. Objects exceeding 41 pounds are not to be lifted or carried without assistance. 
• Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time; requires long hours of eye-hand coordination. 
• Must be able to use stairs and/or elevators to move between floors as required by the job.
• Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the day. 
• Position may require travel. 
• Extensive use of phone and PC. 
• Fine dexterity with hands/steadiness.
• Positional Coordination (balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting).

• Capable of handling multiple priorities in a high-volume setting. 
• Must be able to make decisions based on established procedures and exercise good judgment.
