Genetics Coordinator II - San Juan Capistrano, CA, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Genetic testing and counseling are rapidly advancing areas of medical genetics, requiring extensive knowledge of the principles and practice of all areas of clinical and laboratory genetics as well as genetic counseling. The impact of genetic testing results for patients and their families are often complex and life changing, ranging from child bearing decisions to cancer prevention strategies. The Genetic Coordinator will aid the Genomic Services team and Operations to ensure that clients of Quest Diagnostics Incorporated receive genetics services, both consultative and laboratory, of the highest quality possible. Toward this end, the Genetic Coordinator will provide help to the Genomic Specialists and Operations staff in the Biochemical Genetics/Maternal Serum Screening, Cytogenetics, and Molecular Genetics Laboratories, including Oncology and Neurology. Under the direction of, or working with a Genomic Services member, he/she will be responsible for assisting genomic science specialists in their role of providing client service and support for laboratory operations
Pay range: $68,640 - $91,650 / year
Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities:
Perform administrative duties of a complex and sensitive nature, including but not limited to:
- Perform all of the duties of a Genomic Coordinator 1
- May assist to recruit, interview and train new Genomic Coordinator or Genomic Client Service Specialist employees
- Demonstrate a level of expertise in all Quest systems and processes (These include but are not limited to: Omnigen, MolGen, Optimaxx all standard QLS sites and non-standard LIS sites, LBM, Antrim, ScerIS and IQDB as well as Word, Excel and PowerPoint when appropriate for their roles and responsibilities)
- Coordinate molecular prenatal samples: intake, creation of patient charts, monitoring growth and testing progress, ensuring samples are added to batches in a timely fashion, editing custom text and calling or faxing results
- For specialized assays: verifies accurate test order for each sample received, monitors processing to ensure timely reporting of results
- Obtain clinical information on specific samples as needed
- Obtain and summarize phenotype and family history information on specific samples as requested
- Resolve Problem log in Cytogenetics lab
- Monitor the Daily Holds report and resolve outstanding issues assigned to the Genomic Services group
- Assist in the creation, curation and updating of various clinical databases
- Perform literature searches when needed and contribute to published abstracts and manuscripts
- Obtain clinical outcome data for targeted assays when needed
- Initial prenatal intakes
- Coordination of testing for the Family Insight Program
- Coordination of sample approval and submission for family studies
- Confirmation calls to client when a Part 2 is submitted after a positive Part 1 in maternal serum sequential screening tests
- Functions as liaison with inter- and intra-clinical department members.
- Triaging calls to the GC when appropriate
- Coordination of high touch and high complexity (exome and newborn diagnostics) sample testing
- Independently monitor incoming samples and provide daily correspondence for high risk, high volume clients.
- Participation on various committees to create, organize and implement strategies to promote and drive the desired culture throughout the organization.
- Function as a resource for problem solving and process improvement for new softwareapplications
- Participate in conception and implementation of chatbot and independently monitor pilot of live-chat feature of chatbots when appropriate
- Functions as liaison with various lab acquisitions
- Participate in weekly meetings with GCs in various specialties to gain knowledge, monitor efficiencies and evaluate work processes and problem resolution.
- Independently monitor and oversee inquiries from multiple specialty mailboxes.
- If needed, participate in mentoring and educating of genetic counseling students rotating through the laboratory
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Job Requirements
- Meets job requirements of Genomic Coordinator I plus:
- BA/BS degree preferred; 2-4 years of experience in customer service
- Must have been employed at Quest for at least 12-24 months
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of PC operation, including appropriate genetics packages and standards such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access.
- Proven ability to accomplish tasks both independently and as a member of a team.
- Proven ability to prioritize and take initiative
- Excellent critical thinking skills
- Exemplify professionalism consistent with Quest Diagnostics’ values, vision and mission
- Strong organizational abilities
