Hematology & Chemistry Experience
Pay Range: $25.17+ per hour
Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Under minimal supervision, incumbent(s) will consistently and accurately perform either a greater number or more varied amount of complex or difficult tests and assignments than the work performed by a Medical Technologist I.
- Employee will be required to travel to various sites.
- The RRL-STAT LAB Floater II provides coverage at multiple sites performing as testing at multiple Rapid Response Laboratories, without direct supervision. Phlebotomy may be an optional requirement for the position. This position also requires training and assessment skills, to be provided to the technical staff, and potentially the phlebotomy staff at the assigned sites.
- Consistently and independently performs clinical testing.
- OPTIONAL: Perform, with confidence, both the forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices and procedures.
- Oversees the preparation of reagents or media as well as stock solutions, standards and controls. Evaluates new tests reagents or controls and evaluates their usefulness based on standard criteria. Ensures accurate tracking and labeling of reagents and supplies.
- Determines the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria in testing procedures.
- Handles proficiency testing samples appropriately to avoid inappropriate referral or communication.
- Ensures Instrument and testing and accuracy:
- Performs linearity, accuracy and precision checks as required.
- Performs Quality Control and calibrations with the appropriate frequency and evaluates results, to decide whether tests should be reported. Reports any shifts or trends to the Supervisor.
- Responsible for performing and recording instrument maintenance, temperature readings each day of operation, and daily surface decontamination of all areas of testing.
- Files and maintains all records involved in the testing of patient samples, including quality control data, instrument maintenance and service records and patient records based on requirements in the Records Retention Schedule. This includes proficiency testing.
- Accurately enters results of testing. Reviews reports to monitor accuracy of results reporting. Evaluates the acceptability of routine and complex analysis prior to releasing patient reports.) Recognizes and takes appropriate action in response to critical values or unusual or unexpected results, and documents action taken. Determines calculated results utilizing testing data by means of manual or computerized procedures (not sure what this means).
- Demonstrates the ability to detect and correct technical, instrument and operational problems. Notifies the supervisor, and contacts manufacturer or field service support for additional assistance, if necessary. Documents all problems with clearly stated description of issue and corrective action taken. Determines steps to ensure patient testing is not delayed when instruments are non-operational.
- Trains technical staff in proper performance of both routine and complex procedures. Assists department supervisor or manager by providing technical direction to staff members. May provide feedback to supervisor on individual and/or team learning progress.
- OPTIONAL: May assist the Patient Services supervisor in training phlebotomy staff if assigned by supervisor
- Assists the RRL and Patient Services Supervisors or Manager with scheduling effective weekly workloads and provides coverage at designated sites.
- Actively participates in staff meetings, and in Quality Improvement meetings as assigned. Demonstrates effective communications and good working relationships with departmental peers as well as employees within other departments.
- Takes on additional business related responsibilities or projects, as delegated by the Supervisor or Manager. This may include but not be limited to: evaluation of new techniques and procedures in terms of personnel and space requirements, method comparison, cost analysis, establishment of reference ranges, writing and revising technical procedures, and evaluation of productivity and key results measures.
- Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education activities.
- Sets an example for following established company and departmental policies and guidelines for attendance, and performance improvement. Responsible for following the guidelines for safety, environmental, and infection control. Consistently sets an example for other employees by maintaining a safe and neat work area.
- Demonstrates a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Work Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years Clinical Laboratory experience.
- If Performing/overseeing Phlebotomy Services, a minimum of 2 years
- Phlebotomy experience.
Preferred Work Experience:
A minimum of 2 years Clinical Laboratory experience in a multiple RRL/ Stat Lab setting and 5 years Phlebotomy experience (if performing).
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Must be capable of driving to multiple sites with a single working day.
- Self-Motivated / Independent
- Able to work unsupervised
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Excellent communication skills
- Lift light to moderately heavy objects. The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects. Objects in the weight range of 1 to 15 pounds are lifted and carried frequently; objects in the weight range of 16 to 25 pounds are lifted and carried occasionally and objects in the weight range of 26 to 40 pounds are seldom lifted and carried. Objects exceeding 41 pounds are not to be lifted or carried without assistance.
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time; requires long hours of eye and hand coordination.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the day.
Knowledge:
- College diploma/transcript is required
- Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation).
Skills:
Must be flexible in time schedules and capable of driving to all designated locations when requested. Some overnight stays may be required.
