Pay Range: $97,570 - $175,230 / year


Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful
candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

In a Hospital System spanning several locations, the Point of Care Specialist is responsible for maintaining system performance and coordinating with each hospital location to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for Point of Care testing.  The Point of Care Technical Specialist requires  experience in Point of Care platforms, interfaces, and testing methodologies to serve as a resource for the Hospital Laboratory Directors, be able to work with Point of Care vendors, and collaborate with system medical and nursing leadership that use Point of Care equipment and tests.


Responsibilities

  • Drive standardization across the hospital network of 7 hospitals and Free Standing Emergency Rooms for Point of Care.
  • Establishes and Facilitates Point of Care Best Practice Team (BPT) to coordinate enterprise-wide activities and drive standardization. This includes instrumentation choices and quality practices for Point of Care.
  • Collaborates with National Point of Care Team of HCA.
  • Supports and coordinates with local Point of Care Coordinators for Free Standing Emergency Departments to meet provider and patient needs.
  • Creates and executes standard POC Tools and SOPs.
  • Develops ROI tools to determine whether any new POC tests are to be brought into the laboratory.
  • Ability to develop and maintain rapport with others. Ability to create and maintain an environment that results in above average satisfaction ratings from employees, patients and physicians.
  • Ability to negotiate priorities, contribute to organizational strategy, and support national strategic initiatives in the Point of Care domain in collaboration with hospital laboratory leadership.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret numerical/statistical information to draw conclusions.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of test methodologies and quality control.
  • Consistent knowledge of all Point of Care testing, procedures, instruments, connectivity / interfaces, specimen requirements, critical values and appropriateness of results.
  • Ensure compliance with all Laboratory and Facilities Regulatory agencies (CAP, State, TJC).
  • Develops and maintains appropriate performance metrics, and drives improvements in performance.
  • Will manage projects related to improvements identified including on boarding equipment and technology, implementation of improvement and standardization of Point of Care Processes.
  • Support new technologies that may be implemented or are available to address improved Point of Care effectiveness and efficiencies.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills.
  • Collaborate with other Technical Specialists to drive overall quality and performance improvement projects.
  • Serves on system or hospital committees as requested.
  • Supports other disciplines as needed – may be assigned other areas based on need of the enterprise.

Physical Demands:

  • Physical activities include frequent walking, sitting, bending, lifting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and squatting.  The ability to lift up to 30 lbs. in weight to a height of 5 feet and carrying moderately light loads for a distance of 50 feet.  Color vision is required for accuracy in work.  Atmosphere and environment associated with a clinical laboratory setting – toxic and/or hazardous chemicals/specimens with unpleasant odors.
  • Ability to flex and work on projects/train on all shifts.
  • Meet hospital credentialling requirements including hospital required vaccinations (Hepatitis B, Flu A/B, COVID, etc.)
  • Willing and able to travel to all the hospitals and FSED locations in the Denver market as needed to support Point of Care needs.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology with ASCP certification; subsequent to graduation.  Certified Point of Care Professional (CPP) certification is preferred.

Three to six (3-6) years of pertinent, full-time laboratory experience in a core laboratory or Hospital with demonstrated experience in the Point of Care discipline.  

Microsoft skills including MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word are required. Experience with online tools: Smartsheet, MS Forms, etc.  is preferred.

Advanced education will be counted towards years of experience.
