Job Description
AmeriPath Kentucky in Lexington, KY is seeking a full-time laboratory based General Surgical Pathologist. The pathologist will primarily be located at our read-only office in Lexington, KY. The work includes general surgical pathology with a high percentage of GI specimens. There also are some Non-GYN cytology specimens. The practice consists of two pathologists who share equally in the work. The call is very limited and with very infrequent calls, that can be handled via phone. No autopsies are performed. Rare assistance with grossing small specimens, such as colorectal polyp or endoscopic mucosal resection, is required. The scheduled work week is Monday through Friday.
Lexington, Kentucky is a medium sized city with a population of approximately 516,000 in the Lexington-Fayette County metropolitan area that has many cultural amenities including the University of Kentucky academics and sports, three symphony orchestras, Keeneland, home of the Breeder’s Cup, Kentucky Horse Museum, Horse Farm Tours, the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, the Aviation Museum and the homes of Henry Clay and Mary Todd Lincoln, as well as other historic sites. There are very good public and private school options and many public parks and hiking trails.
Responsibilities:
Perform diagnostic interpretation of surgical pathology and Non-Gyn cytology specimens.
Occasional travel, approximately two days per month, for lab visits and frozen sections at hospitals outside Lexington.
The total annual volume of the practice is approximately 15,000 surgical accessions and 125 Non-Gyn cytology accessions.
Communicate with clients/ physicians/ customers, as needed.
Maintain privileges in facilities/ hospitals where the pathologist is the medical director of the laboratory.
Presentation of pathology at hospital tumor board, which is presented remotely from Lexington.

Qualifications:
- MD or DO degree,
- Completed AP/CP residency training and must be board eligible/ certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
2-3 years post residency experience desired but not required.
Must hold valid unrestricted licenses to practice medicine in Kentucky and Illinois or be eligible to obtain licensures.
