Regional Anatomic Pathology Medical Director – Southeast South – Tampa, FL (Onsite)
AmeriPath has highly trained, board-certified pathologists and Ph.D. level scientists providing services to physicians, hospitals, clinical laboratories and ambulatory surgery centers across the United States.
Responsibilities:
The Regional Anatomic Pathology Director provides professional oversight and direction of anatomic pathology services including quality assurance functions, medical directorship where indicated (per CLIA), and technical direction as required.
Responsible for the medical quality of a pathology practices including the hiring, management and training of Managing Directors.Leads a team that executes the PC component with high quality and efficiency.Partners with the practice operations leader to drive overall operations of the pathology practice.Shared responsibilities include the services and service levels provided to customers, the working environment of its employees, and the regions overall financial performance.Position requires close collaboration with leaders and physicians within the Division and across other lines of the Company’s businesses.With operations leadership, develops and implements sound policies to improve performance, methods, and quality of medical services provided by the practice.
Duties and Responsibilities
Hires, manages and develops Managing Directors to provide high quality diagnosis in a timely manner and works to collaborate with the technical team to optimize our offerings and workplace community.
Guides and directs practice leaders and physicians to increase effectiveness, revenue, new business and quality output.
Leads Managing Directors and supporting pathologists through change management processes
Oversees inspection readiness and quality programs in the region. Develops and establishes measures to improve the quality of medical services provided by the region’s practices.
Confers with division leaders, senior leaders, other managers and physicians to review practice operations and discuss required changes in goals or objectives resulting from current status and conditions.
Evaluates, leads and oversees implementation of new technologies (including but not limited to Digital Pathology and AI).
Partners closely with practice operations leader to drive profitable growth.Interact with Finance, Sales and Operations leaders to ensure practice revenues and OM are monitored and on target.
Efficiently manages the Managing Director team and partners with operations to ensure that financial budgets are met.Ensures that financial controls are in place and there are no surprises in business performance or billing performance.
Manages the Profit and Loss of multiple and varied practice in the region.
Participates on leadership teams in an effort to standardize and improve operations within the Division or Company, as appropriate.
Works in partnership with the AP leadership team to enhance customer relationships and revenue opportunities.
Works in partnership with Human Resources for the recruitment, selection, retention and motivation of Managing Directors, physicians and employees including training, development, and performance management. Manage Managing Director and Pathologist vacation schedules.
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patients, physicians, employees, clients, vendors, and the Company.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises Managing Directors, medical pathology staff. Direct and indirect reports can include Managing Directors, Pathologists and Pathologist Assistants.
Work Environment
Reading slides on a microscope and/or digital monitor in a laboratory, office, or hospital setting.
Domestic Travel
Travel between 20% - 30%
Qualifications:
Doctor of Medicine. M.D. or D.O.
Must be certified by the American Board of Pathology (or equivalency for osteopathic pathologists) in the specialty of Anatomic Pathology (or combined Anatomic/Clinical Pathology).
15+ years post residency experience desired
More than 5 years’ experience in management of other physicians. (i.e. pathologists) and or laboratory personnel.
5+ years of prior experience in an inpatient and/or outpatient Laboratory setting.
Hold active privileges in facility where any inpatient work is interpreted
Active, unrestricted medical licensure minimally for the states covered by the laboratory
Physical and Mental Requirements
Ability to spend consecutive hours with continued focus, interpreting tissues and cellular preparations through a microscope.
Ability to perform all job functions visually, audibly, and physically.
Requires sitting or standing for long periods of time.
Knowledge/Skills
Strong customer focus and understanding of laboratory operations.
Ability to communicate with decision makers in the laboratory and Company.
Work Environment
Leadership and approximately 50-80% reading slides on a microscope and/or digital monitor in a laboratory, office, or hospital setting.
