VP & GM, Pharma Services
Job Description
Reporting to the SVP of Diagnostic Services, the Vice President & General Manager, Pharma Services will provide executive leadership and strategic direction for the unit, with overall accountability for its profit and loss (P&L), operational excellence, and market growth. This role involves guiding cross-functional teams in sales, marketing, operations, technology, R&D, and quality/regulatory affairs to ensure business goals are met while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and quality. The ideal candidate is a strategic, results-oriented leader with a deep understanding of the Diagnostics and pharmaceutical market and proven experience in driving financial growth.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute comprehensive strategic business plans to meet or exceed financial goals, including revenue, profitability and market share
- Identify new market opportunities and lead the development of effective go-to-market, pricing and product positioning strategies in partnership with Commercial and Marketing
- Analyze market trends, competitive intelligence and customer feedback to inform strategic decisions and drive innovation
- Key elements include partnering with pharma and IVD companies to support Clinical Trials Testing (including decentralized clinical trials), CDx development, launch and growth
- Utilize VOC and influence skills to inform prioritization, development of new solutions/products/technologies and/or improvements in existing processes/products which are required to attain market leadership
- Leverage Quest’s global business for additional growth opportunities
- Create compelling business cases and gain leadership support to secure additional investments as opportunities emerge
- Develop Annual Operating Plan (AOP) in collaboration with Pharma-channel Commercial Marketing organization and cross functional partners; drive to results on the same
- Manage the business unit’s budget and have full P&L accountability, ensuring optimal allocation of resources to support strategic priorities
- Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends and implementing corrective actions to ensure cost efficient delivery
- Lead a team of direct reports and an extended organization focused on operations, customer needs, technology, quality and regulatory and direct liaison with the commercial/business development team
- Engage and drive results through the extended cross functional team creating growth opportunities in alignment with Quest Diagnostics strategies, capabilities and footprint
- Lead, coach and develop the team, holding everyone accountable for high performance
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and foster a culture of operational excellence
Key Performance Metrics
- Achieve Annual Operating Plan revenue, volume, and margin targets in Pharma Services
- Develop a 3-year strategic plan and build required capabilities to achieve plan
- Build and/or develop a high performing team inclusive of key cross functional partners
- Manage discretionary spend, including spend required for promotional tactics the support the growth of Pharma & IVD Services
- Customer retention and satisfaction survey results
- New solution development and launch
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- BS in a technical life sciences discipline; Ph.D. and/or MBA preferred
- 12-15 years increasing responsibility in product development, strategic marketing, or healthcare/life science management
- Ideal candidate would have previous GM-level experience with P&L accountability and experience growing a business in a startup setting
- Significant experience in both Central Research Organizations and Diagnostics
- Experience in at least one of the following industries: Clinical Laboratory, IVD manufacturing, medical device, pharmaceutics (specifically drug development and commercialization) or CRO. Ideal candidate would have multiple experiences in all of the areas above
- Experience with Global markets is preferred
- Clear understanding of market development and bringing new solutions to market (demonstrated track record)
- Demonstrated ability to drive value through external-facing management of potential partners and stakeholders
- Understanding of the healthcare delivery system
- Ability to commercialize science in the lab testing segment of healthcare
- Experience in evaluating and integrating M&A activity
