Solution Architect (Remote)
Job Description
The Solution Architect is responsible for translating market-driven product concepts and business requirements into technically feasible, scalable solution designs across all HAS platforms, including data platforms, BI, analytics models, data extraction and delivery, and enterprise applications. This role serves as the critical bridge between business-facing product teams and technology delivery teams, ensuring clarity of requirements, architectural alignment, feasibility assessment, vendor evaluation (when applicable), and development of level-of-effort (LOE) estimates before work transitions into detailed design and build.
The Solution Architect provides end-to-end architectural oversight for solutions that span multiple enterprise systems, technologies, and business domains (e.g., laboratory, billing, logistics, patient services, finance). This includes creating and presenting architecture artifacts such as solution overviews, data models, integration designs, dependency maps, and technical assessments, while guiding developers and architects through implementation. The role collaborates closely with Enterprise and Infrastructure Architecture functions to ensure solutions align with broader IT strategy, standards, and long-term platform direction.
Responsibilities:
Solution Shaping & Business Translation
- Partner with market-backed teams and business stakeholders to understand objectives, use cases, and requirements, translating them into clear, actionable solution concepts.
- Develop high-level technical designs including data flows, integrations, system interactions, and platform components required to deliver the solution.
- Produce solution artifacts such as architecture overviews, diagrams, data models, dependency maps, and solution outlines to enable downstream design and build activities.
Feasibility, Estimation & Optioning
- Identify technical options and assess feasibility, risks, constraints, and tradeoffs.
- Provide high-level level-of-effort (LOE) estimates and complexity assessments to inform prioritization and planning decisions.
- Support early-stage proofs of concept (POCs) and vendor evaluations to validate solution viability.
Cross-Platform Alignment & Governance
- Facilitate early collaboration across platform product managers, architects, engineering, data science, and enterprise architecture to ensure shared understanding and alignment.
- Ensure solutions align with platform strategy, architectural standards, data governance, security requirements, and reference patterns.
- Promote reuse of existing capabilities and reduce redundant or bespoke development.
Enterprise Architecture & Strategic Support
- Collaborate with Enterprise and Infrastructure Architecture teams to ensure solutions align with broader IT strategy, roadmaps, and standards.
- Contribute to enterprise blueprints, technology assessments, and strategic platform evolution.
- Evaluate external vendors and technologies when applicable, preparing structured assessments and recommendations.
Technical Leadership & Communication
- Serve as the central technical point of contact during early-stage solution definition.
- Lead cross-functional solution discussions and present options and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support RFP/RFI development by providing technical input, architecture guidance, and solution validation.
Qualifications:
Required Work Experience
- 7+ years of progressive experience in IT architecture, solution design, data/analytics engineering, or technical product management within large-scale, multi-platform environments.
- Demonstrated experience translating business, market, or customer requirements into high-level solution architectures, diagrams, and technical design artifacts suitable for engineering execution.
- Proven experience operating in complex, heterogeneous enterprise environments, including cross-platform integration and dependency management.
- Experience conducting early-stage feasibility assessments, defining scope boundaries, identifying risks and constraints, and producing high-level effort estimates (LOE).
- Strong background working across multiple technical teams (engineering, data science, infrastructure, product management) to shape and align scalable solutions.
Preferred Work Experience
- Experience in healthcare, clinical, laboratory, or regulated data environments, including familiarity with enterprise healthcare systems.
- Background in cloud-native architectures (GCP preferred), modern data platforms, or MLOps ecosystems.
- Experience with data integration patterns including ETL/ELT pipelines, ingestion frameworks, and distributed data processing environments.
- Experience operating within data governance, privacy, and regulatory frameworks (HIPAA, GDPR, or similar).
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of enterprise solution architecture principles including system interoperability, integration patterns, API design, and data flow mapping.
- Familiarity with data architecture fundamentals such as data modeling, semantic layers, data quality principles, and identity resolution.
- Working knowledge of modern analytics workflows, AI/ML solution components, and emerging AI-driven automation patterns.
- Understanding of MVP definition, architectural trade-offs, estimation methodologies, and dependency mapping.
Skills & Abilities
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business narratives and executive-ready materials.
- Systems-thinking mindset, with the ability to evaluate downstream impacts, integration constraints, and scalability considerations.
- Strong documentation capabilities including solution briefs, architectural outlines, dependency maps, and executive summaries.
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and guide cross-functional stakeholders toward aligned technical decisions.
Required Education
- Bacherlor's degree in computer science, Data Management, Information Systems, or related field
