Job Description

These are often serious decisions with far reaching consequences, and require sensitivity, tact, and a clear dedication to service. It’s about providing clarity and hope.

The External Communications Intern will support the External Communications Manager (of Advanced Diagnostics and Health Systems businesses) through media relations and other communications projects. This includes collaboration with various functions across the Quest business to advance the company’s reputation. It also includes media monitoring, research and content creation for Quest’s channels. The Intern will also support the larger External Communications team, reporting to the Manager, External Communications. 

This individual will be based in Secaucus, NJ two days per week with one day remote. This is a part-time opportunity (20 hours per week).




Responsibilities:

Assist the External Communications team in advancing the company’s external reputation through media relations and other communications. 

  • Supports execution of PR activities by drafting and distributing media pitches for a range of areas across the Quest business
  • Researches media targets to broaden reach of Quest stories
  • Coordinates with other functions including Internal Communications and Social Media/Digital to amplify media coverage 
  • Aids in monitoring and reporting of news coverage
  • Assists with a number of communications deliverables, including talk points & message documents, research summaries for other team members and social media copy
  • Works alongside the Manager of External Communications to establish and develop a channel strategy for the external Quest Newsroom
  • Drafts and manages content for the new page 
  • Executes media audit for Quest, its competitors and its peers 



Qualifications:

Preferred Work Experience: 

  • Other internships in PR or corporate/external communications, specifically in healthcare PR

Physical and Mental Requirements: 

  • Candidate should be a curious, strong writer. Ideal candidates are collaborative with interpersonal skills. Candidate should also be organized and comfortable with fast-paced work.

Knowledge

  • Experience with PR platforms, such as Cision/PRNewswire and Muckrack is a plus.

Skills

  • Demonstrated writing and editing ability 

Prefer Communications or other Liberal Arts majors (Junior or Senior year students)
