Job Description


The Senior Software Test Engineer will be a subject matter expert in software testing methodologies playing a critical role in defining test strategies ensuring the delivery of high-quality software products that meet user needs and compliance standards.

Design, develop and execute manual and automated test cases to validate new product enhancements.  Troubleshoot and resolve production support problems reported by customers and Development Operations (DevOps). 

Work closely with architects, analysts, designers and software engineers to ensure quality releases within each product/service line for stakeholders and customers.  This role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to mentor junior team members within an Agile development environment.




Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement enterprise-level testing strategies, including risk-based testing for high-stakes clinical workflows.
  • Provide functional and technical expertise within a product/application domain area and/or test automation.
  • Contribute to establishing, revising and verifying quality standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Define and communicate the overall test strategy for projects or programs, including functional and regression testing.
  • Contribute to the integrity of the test plans, test data, test environment, and coordination with support areas for specific projects ensuring accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
  • Develop test plans & detailed test cases from functional product requirements and design specification documents to ensure testing adheres to established company processes
  • Evaluate and provide input on functional product requirements and design specifications during test planning stages of software development life cycle.
  • Design and develop test cases to ensure products meet all functional and design requirements. Includes developing manual and automated regression, functional, system, and integration test efforts.
  • Set up and configure test environments.
  • Evaluate and test new or modified programs and software applications.
  • Execute manual and automated tests, report execution results, and attest to the quality of the enhancement or defect fix.
  • Execute integration tests with product interface partners and other products in the software solution stream.
  • Identify, document, and track software defects using a defect tracking tool (e.g., Jira) and collaborate with developers to ensure timely resolution and validation.
  • Maintain pre-existing (regression) test cases to keep current as new enhancements are introduced.
  • Work closely with Business Analysts, Development and QA Team members to vet requirements, understand workflows, and translate into testable scenarios that are traceable back to acceptance criteria.
  • Oversee and conduct manual and automated testing, analyze test results, and provide detailed reports to stakeholders and management, quality metrics, highlighting issues, risks, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Identify and champion process improvements.
  • Assist Documentation and Training departments in product knowledge transfer of new releases.
  • Work closely with developers, product owners, and business analysts to understand requirements and acceptance criteria, and provide guidance and training to junior test engineers on best practices and testing tools.
  • Drive and recommend improvements to the existing testing process and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Supervise and mentor junior and intermediate testers, fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement.
  • Lead formal Verification and Validation (V&V) activities to comply with HIPAA, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and ISO 13485 standards.



Qualifications:

Required Work Experience:  

  • Minimum 5+ years in software quality assurance, with at least 3 years specifically in a regulated healthcare or life sciences environment.
  • Other:   
  • 3 years of experience with evaluation methods in the design, development and debugging of software systems including: software testing, GUI testing, and software development life cycle.
  • 2 years of experience with test automation tools, defect-tracking systems, SQL queries, test plan and test case development.
  • 2 years of experience using enterprise Java, C++ or .NET (or comparable object-oriented technologies) in an application or automation development capacity
  • Deep understanding of healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR) and data privacy laws.

People Leader Responsibility:

  • Supervise and mentor junior and intermediate testers, fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based or hybrid.
  • May involved occasional “on-call” hours during software release cycles.
  • Requires a high level of professional ethics due to the sensitive nature of patient data.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk, and listen for long periods at a time.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience. (Required)
  • Master’s degree in health informatics, information systems, Biomedical Engineering, or Computer Science. (Preferred)
  • Experience with automated testing tools (e.g., Selenium, WDIO). (Required)

  • ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) or ASQ Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE). (Required)
  • Proficiency in SQL for backend data validation. (Preferred)
  • ISTQB Advanced Level: Test Manager or Test Automation Engineer. (Preferred)
  • ISTQB AI Testing or Generative AI Testing certification. (Preferred)
