At Quest Diagnostics, we understand urgency. But more than speed, we focus our energies on accuracy. Currently, we seek a Director, Science – Toxicology for the Quest Diagnostics clinical laboratory in Atlanta (Tucker), GA.

The Atlanta facility is a major Clinical Reference Laboratory in the Southeast Region of Quest Diagnostics. The lab has an extensive test menu encompassing Clinical and Anatomic Pathology, including key department such as:  Clinical Chemistry, Immunoassay, Immunology, Serology, Hematology, Immunohematology, Microbiology, Molecular Infectious Disease Testing, LC-MS/MS, Histology, Cytology, and related areas of testing.  Due to the growth of our Toxicology department in all areas we are expanding our management team to allow us to service both internal and external customers to match the Quest Diagnostics quality standards.


Quest Diagnostics, the nation’s largest clinical laboratory, is seeking candidates for the Director, Science – Toxicology for our site in Atlanta (Tucker), GA.  Reporting directly to the CLIA Laboratory Director in Atlanta, the Scientific Director provides technical, regulatory and operational oversight to a component department or division of the laboratory.  In conjunction with the Operations Director, Manager and Technical Supervisors of component department(s), the Science Director develops a cohesive team to manage activities of the department(s) and division.  The principle duties of the position are to provide operational, managerial and technical oversight for all areas of Toxicology:   Clinical Toxicology, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Pain Management and a variety Drugs of Abuse testing disciplines. This position requires knowledge of many different areas of Toxicology both theoretical and analytical.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty competently.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Doctoral degree (PhD), or equivalent years of relevant clinical laboratory industry or research experience. Subspecialty training and/or Board Certification in Clinical Chemistry/Toxicology (ABCCC) or Forensic Toxicology (D-ABFT) highly desired.


  • Six or more years of clinical laboratory experience (or its equivalent), with at least four years in the field of testing performed by the department/division.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the trends and forces shaping the health care delivery system, the provision of care, and other emerging issues in healthcare management.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and initiative to effectively lead change efforts to respond to marketplace or organizational changes.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly developed ability to work effectively with a variety of constituencies, and ability to lead and manage through influence and delegation.
  • Demonstrated fiscal management capabilities including effective expense reduction, utilization, management, and budget control.
  • Proven personnel management strength including demonstrated ability to select, motivate, develop, evaluate performance, discipline, and promote collaborative team efforts.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in cross-functional process assessment, problem- solving and process improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing and assigning work, allocating resources, and scheduling appropriate staff mix.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current technical, quality control, and quality assurance procedures and laboratory information systems.
  • Experience in teaching, as well as involvement in professional activities.
