Materials Manager - Pharma Services - San Juan Capistrano, CA, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Pay range: $102,500 - $184,150 / year
Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

The Material Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, management and oversight of all materials and finished product activities supporting CDx operations across multiple sites. This role ensures uninterrupted supply, regulatory compliance, inventory accuracy and operational efficiency through effective planning, process optimization and cross-functional collaboration. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supply and demand planning, procurement, inventory management, warehousing, distribution, traceability, sustainability, audit readiness and staff development. The Material Manager leads continuous improvement initiatives, systems implementations, and standardization efforts to enhance quality, reduce cost and improve efficiency. The Material Manager ensures uninterrupted supply, regulatory compliance, inventory accuracy and operational excellence through cross-functional collaboration with Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, Supply Chain, Regulatory and Operation team.
Responsibilities:
Supply Chain Planning:
- Develop and execute supply plans aligned with demand forecasts, production schedules and sustainability requirements
- Create demand plans to ensure finished product availability to mee customer needs and sustainability requirements
- Monitor supply level and allocate inventory during critical shortages to minimize operational impact
- Analyze inventory trends and recommends safety stock levels, replenishment strategies and phase in/phase out of new and obsolete materials
Inventory, Warehouse, and Distribution
- Oversee material receiving, storage, handling and distribution activities to ensure compliance with GMP/ISO requirements and internal procedures
- Ensure accurate inventory levels, material traceability and proper identification and segregation of materials
- Manages finished product replenishments and transfers to Quest Operations to prevent supply interruptions
- Monitors open orders and backorders to ensure timely receipt of materials.
- Coordinate physical inventory processes with Quest Supply Chain and Materials Management, including cycle counts, to maintain inventory integrity
Systems and Process Management
- Implements, utilizes and manages Materials Management systems (MRP/ERP)
- Ensures data integrity, system accuracy and proper documentation for materials and finished product
- Lead digital transformation and system optimization initiatives to improve material flow, visibility and inventory accuracy
Regulatory Compliance and Quality
- Ensure material management activities comply with FDA/ISO and internal Quality Systems
- Maintains audit readiness of the Material Storage areas and applicable documentation
- Partners with Quality and Regulatory teams to support inspections and audits
Procurement & Supplier Collaboration
- Source and procure materials in alignment with quality, cost and delivery requirements
- Assist procurement with New Item Requests (NIR) and New Vendor Requests (NVR)
- Collaborate with suppliers to resolve material issues, improve performance and ensure continuity of supply
- Reconcile receiving and inventory discrepancies with Procurement, vendors and accounts payable
Business Continuity and Risk Management:
- Lead and execute Material Business Continuity Plan to ensure supply resilience during emergencies and disruptions
- Identify material supply risks and implement strategies to protect manufacturing and Quest operations
- Lead and support material sustainability programs to mitigate supply risks
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead material standardization initiatives across sites to improve efficiency and reduce complexity
- Drive improvement projects in collaboration with Procurement and Quality to enhance quality and performance and reduce costs
Leadership and Development
- Provides leadership, coaching and development to the materials team
- Establishes performance expectations and fosters a culture in support of Quest 5C’s
Qualifications:
Required Work Experience:
- Minimum of 7 plus years’ experience in Supply Chain, Materials Material Management or a related field within a regulated manufacturing environment (i.e., pharmaceutical, medical device, biotech)
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Prolonged sitting.
- Extensive computer usage.
- Lifting and/or moving boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.
Knowledge:
- Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.) or equivalent.
- Proven experience in ERP/MRP systems
- Strong knowledge of FDA/ISO regulatory compliance requirements
- Leadership experience in multi-site operations
- Excellent Analytical, communication and problem-solving skills

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, engineering or a material related field (Required)
- APICS CSCP or CPIM and or ISM CPM certification. (Preferred)
- Lean certification (Preferred)
