LIMS Software Engineer I (Remote)
Job Description
As a Software Engineer I, you will play an important role in supporting and maintaining our cloud-based enterprise Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), which is used to manage the generation, analysis, quality control, and interpretation of clinical data produced by diagnostic NGS assays. You will assist with system configuration, reporting, and development tasks under the guidance of more senior engineers. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional technical and scientific stakeholders to ensure smooth day-to-day operations of enterprise applications that support laboratory workflows. In addition, you will act as the first point of contact for production system issues reported by end users, helping to triage, troubleshoot, and resolve problems—or escalate them to the appropriate teams when needed.
The ideal candidate will have prior administrative experience with enterprise systems and relational databases, excellent troubleshooting and communication skills, and a strong desire to grow their technical expertise while supporting critical business operations.
This is a salaried position, with occasional weekend work to satisfy project timelines and end-user support. This position can work 100% remote and may require up to 10% travel. Candidates must be located in the US and available during Eastern and Central business hours.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the first line of support for production system issues reported by users; investigate, resolve, or escalate as appropriate.
Monitor, triage, and track incidents, ensuring timely communication and resolution.
Assist with configuration and testing of functionality within our cloud-based StarLIMS v12 environments.
Support development of reports and dashboards in StarLIMS and associated tools (Advanced Analytics, Crystal Reports, QBE).
Collaborate with business analysts, laboratory SMEs, and senior engineers to translate user requests into functional technical solutions.
Provide technical support during software validation activities and production use.
Maintain accurate technical documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Manage assigned workload in Jira and Confluence, providing timely updates.
Respectfully and clearly communicate in English both textually and verbally with stakeholders.
Other duties, as assigned, which will contribute to the success of our company and the data systems we deploy.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related STEM field (or equivalent practical experience).
Minimum 2 years professional experience supporting enterprise applications or databases.
Familiarity with relational databases and ability to read and write SQL queries.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a detail-oriented mindset.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
Willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and workflows.
Certificates in IT or database topics are a plus.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with StarLIMS or another enterprise LIMS.
Familiarity with scripting languages, HTML, or JavaScript.
Experience creating dashboards or reports in tools such as Crystal Reports.
Exposure to laboratory workflows, NGS technologies, or regulated environments.
