Pay Range: $155,000.00 - $175,000.00 / year

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

The Lead Bioinformatics Engineer - Variant Interpretation is responsible for advancing patient care through innovative software solutions. The successful candidate will design, implement, and maintain web applications handling large-scale genetic data. Collaborating closely with the Data Science and Bioinformatics teams, the engineer will work in an agile environment, contributing to the modernization of our systems while enhancing their own technical skills.




Responsibilities:

Feature Development:

  • Design, implement, and maintain web application features using Node, TypeScript, React, MongoDB, Next.js, and NestJS.
  • Execute on achieving user requirements and performance standards in a medical or diagnostics information environment.

System Transition:

  • Transition legacy systems from PHP, Go, and Angular to Node, Python and React.
  • Help refactor and optimize existing codebases related to clinical or genomic data.


Database Management:

  • Design, query, and manage data in MySQL, and MongoDB in compliance with business data privacy requirements.


Cloud Deployment:

  • Support deployment and management of applications on AWS to ensure scalability, reliability, and security in a healthcare context.


Agile Collaboration:

  • Participate in agile workflows, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery.


Quality Assurance:

  • Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure code quality.
  • Conduct peer code reviews to uphold development standards.


Lead Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance & create design and code standards for developer team.
  • Ensure standards being met during peer and similar reviews.
  • Lead and provide technical training for team members. 



Qualifications:

Required Work Experience:

  • Experience with modern software technologies, including Node, TypeScript, React, and AWS.
  • Prior experience working in a medical, diagnostics, or genomic information setting is required to effectively contribute to the development and maintenance of clinical interpretation systems.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies.
  • Experience with User Experience.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Test-driven development mindset and experience writing tests.
  • Experience working in a regulated healthcare environment.


Preferred Work Experience:

  • Experience with technologies such as SQL, PHP, Go, Python or Angular.
  • Understanding of best practices for transitioning legacy systems.
  • Familiarity with CDK and/or terraform.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and/or GitHub actions.
  • Experience with containerized applications.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • This role is required to collaborate with teams in US, EU and Asia, and at least 2 hour overlap during their business hours is expected.


Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in full stack development, including front-end, back-end, and databases.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to continuous learning.


Skills:

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Adaptability to new tools and technologies.

  • May include oversight of contractors.

Work Environment:

  • Desk-Based Work: Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer (typically 8 hours per day).
  • Visual Acuity: Frequent and close visual concentration on computer screens, complex data visualizations, and extensive code repositories.
  • Remote Workspace: Requirement to maintain a dedicated, professional, and secure home office environment free from distractions.
  • Connectivity: Continuous access to a high-speed, secure, and reliable internet connection suitable for high-bandwidth virtual collaboration, video conferencing, and remote cloud infrastructure management.
  • Analytical Thinking: High capacity for sustained cognitive focus, logical reasoning, and complex, scientific problem-solving.
  • Effective Virtual Collaboration: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate, build relationships, and align with remote and cross-functional team members.
  • Adaptability & Prioritization: Ability to self-manage, prioritize multiple competing tasks, and adapt to changing technical requirements or project scopes in a dynamic environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to code quality, security protocols, and data integrity, which is critical for clinical-grade validation.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent experience. (Required)
  • Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field. (Preferred)

Preferred Technical Training or Professional Licensing

  • Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS).
  • Projects available in GitLab/GitHub for review.
  • Training in agile methodologies.
