Logistics Route Service Representative Leader (Intern / Emerging Leader)

Summer Logistics Internship (June 1 - August 7) - $19.50/hr 

Monday- Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM

Position Overview

The Logistics Route Service Representative (RSR) Leader Intern supports and develops frontline transportation operations by combining hands-on route experience with foundational logistics leadership responsibilities. This role is designed to build leadership capability while ensuring the safe, timely, and compliant movement of clinical specimens, supplies, and materials across assigned service areas. The intern functions as a leadership trainee, assisting supervisors and managers with coordination, communication, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives within Quest Diagnostics’ logistics network.

This position emphasizes people leadership, operational oversight, quality assurance, and workflow optimization, preparing the intern for future supervisory or logistics management roles.




Responsibilities:

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational & Route Support

  • Assist in coordinating daily transportation routes to ensure timely specimen pickup and delivery while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Support Route Service Representatives (RSRs) in adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Learn and utilize scanning, tracking, and documentation systems to ensure accurate chain-of-custody and data integrity.
  • Help identify route inefficiencies, delays, or service disruptions and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Participate in inventory and supply tracking to ensure vehicles and client sites are properly stocked.

Logistics Leadership & Team Support

  • Serve as a liaison between frontline RSRs and logistics leadership, reinforcing expectations and operational priorities.
  • Assist supervisors with daily route coordination, workload balancing, and coverage planning.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and customer service excellence.
  • Help reinforce performance standards, attendance expectations, and compliance behaviors.
  • Participate in team huddles, shift briefings, and problem-solving discussions.
  • Provide feedback and observations to leadership regarding process improvements and team performance trends.

Quality, Compliance & Safety Leadership

  • Support enforcement of Quest Diagnostics’ quality assurance standards, including HIPAA, specimen handling, and safety requirements.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with transportation policies, vehicle safety standards, and documentation accuracy.
  • Participate in audits, corrective action follow-ups, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Help communicate quality alerts, procedural updates, and safety reminders to route staff.

  • Gain exposure to logistics leadership decision-making and performance management.
  • Develop foundational leadership competencies such as communication, accountability, coaching, and ethical decision-making.

Qualifications:

Required / Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed coursework in logistics, supply chain management, business, healthcare administration, or a related field.
  • Interest in leadership, operations, or transportation management.
  • Valid driver’s license (if route participation is required).
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn logistics software systems.
