Job Description
The Senior Project Manager manages a variety of medium to high complexity, duration tactical projects/programs spanning across multiple IT systems and cross-functional business areas across Quest Diagnostics. This role partners closely with IT application teams, database and integration teams, Clinical Solutions Franchise, Business Development, Operations, Commercial, and Client Services to deliver client-facing initiatives from initiation through closeout. This role typically manages three to five concurrent projects involving enterprise systems, system integrations, software development, data flows, and operational readiness, with moderate to high complexity considering total cost, financial impact, systems impacted, regulatory considerations, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
This is a Hybrid position.
Preference will be given to someone residing close to one of our Major labs in (Pittsburgh, PA; Houston, TX Lenexa, KS; Marlborough, MA; Dallas, TX; Wooddale, IL, Tampa, FL; Chantilly, VA; Clifton, NJ, San Juan Capastrino, CA)
Work Schedule: Hybrid ( 3 days onsite, 2 days work from home)

Responsibilities:
This position applies Project Management principles and tools in their daily work to ensure Quest Diagnostics is efficient and effective in the delivery of its services, solutions, and processes while improving customer and employee satisfaction. Demonstrates ability to use continuous improvement, risk management and change management tools.
Quest Diagnostics follows a 5-step approach to project management consistent with that of the world-renowned Project Management Institute (PMI): Initiate – Plan – Execute – Monitor – Close.
The Senior Project Manager works in close partnership with IT, CS Franchise, Operations, Commercial, Database, and Client Services teams to design and execute optimized, client-facing solutions. This includes ensuring seamless transitions from design and development through implementation and operational handoff.
The Senior Project Manager provides comprehensive written and verbal status updates to leadership, project/program sponsor and key stakeholders for key projects and programs.
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for collaborating and managing process improvement(s) at a department level and across functional areas that impact project execution.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads projects and working teams to effectively initiate, plan, execute, monitor and close projects. Acts as the primary contact for project team related information.
- Develops and executes project plans, milestone charts, project documentation and scorecards according to requirements defined and approved by sponsor.
- Partners with product owner to ensure all defined business and technical requirements are fully understood, planned, and executed.
- Facilitates project team meetings, cross-functional communication and decision making, ensuring alignment with internal and external stakeholders to quickly achieve tactical objectives.
- Manages project deliverables in accordance with approved schedules. Analyzes critical path, proactively identifying issues and raising/facilitating resolution with cross-functional team. Drives visibility to gaps impacting overall schedule. Escalates roadblocks to leadership for resolution as appropriate.
- Performs root cause analysis using CI tools (e.g., 5 whys, lessons learned). Documents and communicates project shortfalls. Takes corrective action as necessary w/ support of manager.
- Shares/leverages knowledge of various tools, concepts and practices foundational to Project Management in order to effectively utilize the tools and methodologies into our normal way of doing things.
- Responsible for project performance, risk management, administration and issue resolution for the functional team.
- Proactively escalates issues and roadblocks to leadership and drives resolution across IT and business teams
- Communicates effectively with project sponsors, leaders, and client stakeholders in order to manage expectations.
- Manages changes to project scope, cost and schedule via formal change management process.
- Utilizes risk management tool to identify project risks. Guides team members through issues and constraints.
- Serves as a change agent to drive teams toward success.
- Tracks cost, budget, resources, plan and schedules and manage changes at project level as appropriate. Ensures project artifacts are collected, documented and stored for audit and lessons learned purposes.
- Collaborates with external vendors to plan and execute project requirements. Ensures open line of communication in place for timely updates.
- Actively participates in PM Community and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assists with documentation of business processes that impact project planning and execution.
Qualifications:
Required Work Experience:
- Demonstrated experience leading projects from initiation to completion in a matrixed organization preferably in IT or technology-enabled environments (4+ years’ experience)
- Experience managing projects involving multiple systems, integrations, and cross-functional teams
- Proven ability to manage client-facing initiatives and external stakeholder relationships
- Familiarity with project management tools such as Smartsheet, Jira, MS Project, or similar
- Experience supporting Marketing, Product Development and IT efforts in Health Care Sector desired

Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required (BS/BA)
- PMP Certified Project Management (externally administered by the Project Management Institute) a plus
- Formal training continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Total Quality Management, Lean) a plus
