Summer Lab Internship

The Summer Lab Internship Program at Quest Diagnostics offers students the opportunity to gain experience in the Biomedical Engineer job in laboratory environments while working at the world’s leading provider of diagnostic testing, services, and information that patients and doctors rely on to make better healthcare decisions. Summer Lab Interns work with Biomedical Engineers servicing hospital laboratories to provide service and maintenance for all non-reagent bearing equipment to perform a wide range of analytical tests and repairs as needed.  Interns will also apply their background and skills gained in education to various process improvement projects.


Multiple disciplines throughout the laboratory utilize automation for sample processing. Interns will gain an understanding of the life of laboratory equipment, learn the various pieces of equipment, along with preventative maintenance techniques. Interns will be exposed to the various work practices, repair procedures and maintenance duties of an engineer. Interns will participate in troubleshooting and problem resolution while focusing on the continuous improvement of all processes.

Program Eligibility & Qualifications:

To be eligible to participate in the Summer Lab Internship Program, students must meet the following qualifications by the start date of the program:

  • Completed Sophomore Year in a four-year baccalaureate program in biomedical engineering or another human biomedical science-related field
  • A minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited institution with a 3.0 or better overall GPA

Required documentation to upload when applying:

  • Resume – to include transcripts from Registrar’s Office
  • Cover Letter, including the reason for applying and what the candidate is expecting to learn from the internship
  • A Letter of Reference from a Professor
