As Director of Operations for our Port Chester, NY-based Dermpath lab, you will have a role where you can act with professionalism, you can inspire colleagues, and you can care about the work we do and the people we serve.  

The Director of Operations will be responsible for the management of the Anatomic Pathology/Dermatopathology, Specimen Processing, Transcription, Data Entry and Client Services areas, including any satellite facilities involved in Pathology testing. The Director will be responsible for the quality and timeliness for technical and support procedures, compliance with applicable testing requirements and departmental budgets, and oversee operations for the Dermpath Port Chester unit with operating revenues for 2017 of $29 million and excess of 100 employees. The Director is responsible through  a team of  managers for quality and timeliness of technical procedures, compliance, and overall lab budget.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

•         Directs and coordinates operational activities to insure that services are provided on schedule with quality and cost objectives.

•          Ensures that all laboratory activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, federal, and governmental regulations and laws.

•          Develops and trains personnel within the laboratory and reviews and appraises their performance.

•          Establishes laboratory organization plan and delegate’s responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities to appropriate subordinates.

•          Directs, coordinates and oversees major unit projects to the best economic advantage of the corporation.

•          Creates and continuously evaluates objectives and goals for Anatomical Pathology/Dermatopathology in conjunction with the Medical Director as well as for all Laboratory and Support areas.

•          Monitors with the assistance of technical managers work performed by laboratory technical staff. Periodically reviews work in progress and in conjunction with the Medical Director assesses the quality of work performed by use of proficiency testing samples, quality control and maintenance records and adherence to SOPs.

•          Responsible for the safety of all management and staff as well as all clients served.

•          Reviews and updates existing procedures, assuring compliance with regulations and standards of various agencies.

•          Maintains a working knowledge of regulations, standards and policies affecting the operation.

•          Creates and evaluates new procedures and equipment in conjunction with the Medical Director for potential use in Anatomic Pathology and recommends new procedures and equipment where necessary.

•          Insures that laboratory meets all criteria for licensing and accreditation by CAP, CLIA. and that it conforms to all other applicable state and federal laws and regulations.

•          Coordinates activities with other departments such as the Billing, IT, Commercial, Marketing, Finance, etc., as needed.

•          Responsible for interactions with outsource vendors and other Dermpath Diagnostics, AmeriPath and Quest Diagnostics locations as needed

•          All other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

•         10 years of work experience, with minimum of 5 years in management, managing a large group of employees (50 or more) in medical/laboratory related environment

•         Experience in an Anatomic Pathology, Dermatopathology and/or Clinical laboratory desired

•         Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma principles preferred
