The Category Specialist is a key member of our strategic Sourcing teams responsible for negotiating supply and services agreements with Supplier on behalf of Quest Diagnostics. The individual in this role will manage and execute projects for assigned categories working with internal stakeholders to define requirements, identify and evaluate suppliers, and develop sourcing contracts.


Negotiate all elements of Sourcing Agreements for assigned product or service categories to ensure lowest total cost of ownership, including product/service cost, various commercial terms and performance metrics.
Ability to conduct thorough RFP analysis for effective evaluation of suppliers' competitiveness.
Secure compliance to terms and conditions in supplier agreements.
Develop and manage functional supplier relationships with assigned suppliers to optimize financial and operational performance.
Execute supplier cost and performance management system/metrics for assigned suppliers and demonstrate continuous improvement.
Resolve commercial issues associated with supplier performance.
Conduct detailed analysis of information that may have financial impact on sourcing decisions.
Lead multifunctional teams in the evaluation and selection of suppliers and product solutions.
Ability to maintain strong relationships (internal and external) and exert influence when needed.
Ability to quickly grasp business direction, customer requirements and supply chain management strategies.
Proven ability to communicate using an effective communication method, depending on the nature of information.
Proven capability and capacity to manage multiple projects and functional supplier relationships while addressing tactical supplier performance issues.
Occasional travel is required for this position to visit suppliers and Quest locations (10-20%).



Bachelor's degree required, MS/MBA degree in disciplines such as Supply Chain, Operations and Finance is a plus.


3 - 5 years’ experience in sourcing/procurement roles in a relevant industry.
Strong analytical skills including strong knowledge of excel and cost modeling
Experience with ERP Systems for Purchasing & Inventory Management. PeopleSoft experience a plus.
Excellent verbal and written skills. Strong consensus-building, teamwork, and creativity.
Project management experience a definite plus.
Adjusts priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
Ability to interact professionally with colleagues and/or customers for different purposes in different contexts.

Specific Category Experience/Skills (IT)

Strong Knowledge of Sourcing Categories with emphasis on: Hardware, Software Licensing, Telecom & Services.
Clear and thorough knowledge of the negotiation process and key stages of best practice sourcing methodologies.
Knowledge of Sourcing Best Practices IT Contract development and negotiations Hardware, Enterprise Software & Services licenses.
Specific Category Knowledge (Laboratory Products/Services)
Strong Knowledge of Sourcing Categories with emphasis on Laboratory Diagnostics
Familiarity with Diagnostic testing in clinical or hospital setting
