Position Description

Provide medical leadership for physicians in the regional clusters and operational oversight for day-to-day Pathology operations. Provides leadership, direction and planning for a wide variety of pathology related activities throughout the organization, including: providing industry leading diagnostic insights delivered in a reliable, timely, accurate, cost effective, and hassle free manner, in order to, enable better physician care, and provide patients greater insight and understanding, though innovative operations from order entry to results delivery. This executive serves as the liaison and resource to operations on matters pertaining to pathology and medical/professional staff activities. He or she is a leader in promoting physician performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

—  Inspire and lead the Pathology organization for the core business to achieve profitable growth

—  Develop growth strategies and targets for Pathology

—  Develop high level relationships with key customers and prospects to retain and grow revenues

—  Partner with regional commercial VP and business lines to align regional business line, commercial, and operational goals and objectives

—  Drive service and quality for the organization

—  Continuously drive cost performance and Ops excellence

—  Drive physician productivity along with identifying and development of key physician competencies

—  Manage assets and physician staffing

—  Attract, retain and develop talent including succession planning

—  Work with cross-functional partners to propose and implement new pathology retention and motivation strategies

—  Managing hospital pathology relationships

—  Managing pathology subspecialties

—  Ensuring fulfillment of service levels (including flow, molecular, and AP TC/PC)

—  Providing Quality Assurance for regional physician clusters

—  Build an inspiring culture

Supervision Exercised

Responsible for oversight of the Company’s pathology medical staff

•         Directly supervisor 10-20 employees. Direct reports can include Regional Pathology Directors, Managing Directors, Medical & Commercial Relations Director, QA Director.

•         Indirectly supervisor 300-400 employees. Indirect reports include pathologists, medical & commercial relations team, QA team.


• M.D.

• Experienced pathologist

• Minimum of 10 years pathology leadership experience

• Experience leading more than one site/lab is preferred

• Experience leading hospital-based pathology services is preferred

• AP board certification, subspecialty certification or fellowship trained desirable
