Job Description


The AP QA Specialist supports AP and some  CP Operations in order to ensure that function maintains high standards in quality and compliance.  The QA Specialist will work with Anatomic Pathology department leaders to create, improve, and execute standard processes that enable continuous compliance with regulations and policies.  The QA Specialist will support the leadership team by administering document control processes, maintaining the training and competency system, assisting with policy implementation, and performing quality and productivity metrics collection and analysis. 


•         MAINTAINS CONFIDENTIALITY AT ALL TIMES. Will have access to employee and department performance records.  May have knowledge of disciplinary actions up to and including termination.  May have knowledge related to site and departmental performance that could be detrimental if released to the wrong environment.

•         Leverages QMS tools and techniques for continuous process improvement of functional systems relating to quality and compliance.

•         Works to improve and develop systems that support continuous compliance and ensure inspection readiness.

•         Effectively works as a liaison between Operations and Quality to enable quality and compliance, while balancing the demands of the business.

•         Administers document control systems.

•         Administers the rollout of national policies and procedures.

•         Develops and administers systems for training and competency documentation.

•         Performs process improvement projects related to regulatory compliance processes and procedures.

•         Participates in preparation for external audits such as CAP, State and CLIA.

•         Participates s in preparation for internal audits such as MQA, Safety, Compliance, and SOX.

•         Performs internal audits to detect defects in functional processes including, but not limited to verification of data entry quality, billing audits for CPT errors, and audits of supervisory monthly reviews of policy, equipment maintenance, turnaround time, temperature and QA/QC records.

•         Collects, prepares, analyzes, and summarizes functional quality/service/productivity data and metrics.

•         Continuously develops skills in data management and related software supporting these skills.

•         Provides appropriate feedback to supervisors and manager when problems arise.

•         Assists in preparation or revision of SOPs.

•         Performs other duties as assigned.

•         Demonstrates a command over regulations relating to quality and compliance.  Has the ability to translate regulatory or policy requirements into a process that supports compliance with these regulations.

•         Works collaboratively with Anatomic Pathology Operations and Quality Assurance leadership to implement quality processes. 


•         Bachelor’s Degree.

•         Minimum experience of two years working in laboratory operations and/or quality assurance.

•         “Cytotechnologist” preferred but not required

•         Excellent communication skills.

•         Very strong PC skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint applications.
