Group Lead, Forensic Scientist - ES- Lenexa, Kansas - Sun, Mon, Th, Fri

Basic Purpose:
Monitor, coordinate, and perform the work of laboratory technical and non-technical staff within a designated department in order to expedite workflow and solve production problems. This position is responsible for all aspects of testing specimens including specimen preparation, instrument operation and data interpretation, and may release non-regulated results.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Must demonstrate proficiency in all principle duties of a Forensic Scientist I, II and/or III.
Assist in leading assigned Forensic Scientists and Laboratory Assistants by monitoring work flow to meet testing schedules; distributing and reviewing work assignments; training employees in laboratory techniques, procedures & company policy; resolving work related problems of staff; and providing input for performance appraisals and disciplinary actions.
Works with supervisor to head up the validation of new procedures.
Reviews QA and QC records when applicable.
Serve as a technical resource for the department by investigating and resolving analytical testing problems, recommending a course of action in instances identified as beyond acceptable limits, and responding to non-routine/complex inquiries and/or requests.
Expedites the flow of work to maximize productive capacity by evaluating production systems and recommending enhancements and coordinating the resolution of production problems/issues involving other laboratory departments.
Review department activities to ensure compliance with departmental policies and applicable regulations.
Interact in a professional manner with inter-departmental teams and groups.
Perform other duties as directed by supervisors.

Supervision Exercised: 

Education Preferred:  Bachelor of Science or Art degree in medical technology, biological science or related field; BS/BA degrees in non-related field must include a minimum sixteen (16) semester hours in Chemistry, sixteen(16) semester hours in Biology, and three (3) semester hours of Mathematics; or as required by applicable regulations
Work Experience: Minimum of two (2) years laboratory experience.
Knowledge of methods and procedures used by the laboratory.

Physical and Mental: Ability to perform routine and repetitive motions, such as pipetting
Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time

Other: Must have the ability to establish work priorities for self and others and handle several procedures simultaneously including troubleshooting instruments and other problems/issues.
Ability to schedule and manage resources to meet department goals.
Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers within and outside of the department.
Ability to communicate with clients and provide high quality customer service.
Required to protect patient confidentiality at all times.
