Reporting into the Sr. Director,  Corporate EHS as part of the National Team,  the Director has the potential to have a big impact on an employee population of ~45k associates, and will work closely with senior leadership and operations. The position is virtual but will require travel (25%) to multiple sites across the US.

Basic Purpose:
Supports and advises EHS Regional Leaders on Environmental, Health, and Safety issues.
Develops EHS programs and policies and related training and auditing documents.
Conducts site Audits to ensure compliance and develops actions plans with Regional EHS Resources
Be a resource and contribute to the efforts of the Regional Management team to succeed with all goals.
Lend support and expertise during regulatory inspections as needed.
Be a resource to and contribute to the efforts of the Corporate EHS mission to standardize processes at continuously improved levels

Duties and Responsibilities:

Design and implement strategies to prevent occupational injuries
a.       Identify risks associated with hazardous conditions, process design deficiencies and poor employee behaviors. Design and implement risk reduction tactics to minimize risk.
b.       Communicate current observations and results of programs to employees and management

Plans, prioritizes, designs, implements, and manages corporate EHS Policies, Programs, and Processes
a.       Identify programs areas for improvement
b.       Develop EHS programs to be used by Regions.
c.       Roll out and train on new programs
d.       Update programs as necessary

Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other EHS related regulatory requirements.
a.       Know and Interpret Applicable Regulatory requirements – take proactive steps to ensure compliance
b.       Create and manage Audit programs to continuously monitor compliance, audit performance and promote standardized, efficient systems.
c.       Ensure follow up by Regions for any noted deficiencies.
d.       Subject matter expert for Environmental programs including but not limited to chemical surveillance programs, regulated medical waste, RCRA hazardous chemical waste, radioactive waste, waste water compliance and associated permits.
e.       Implement and audit ISO 14000 certification

Manages and promotes environmental sustainability program including oversight of carbon footprint consolidation, non-governmental survey reporting (DJSI, CDP, EPA Green Power Partnership, etc.) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) reporting.

Contribute to the management and resolution of EHS related emerging issues, including compliance, legal, and business expansion activities.
Supervision Exercised:
Provide corporate program leadership in a matrixed organization to regions and functional areas. No direct reports.

Qualifications: 
Education Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in related Sciences (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Safety, Industrial Hygiene)

Preferred: Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Risk Management professional certification
Work Experience:

8-10 years of work experience of responsibilities listed herein
Experience, or knowledge, of identifying and implementing risk reduction strategies for occupational hazards, including biological, chemical, ergonomic, vehicle safety, electrical, and indoor air quality 
 Fully versed in compliance requirements for all OSHA and EPA standards. Should have working knowledge of business best practice and international standards for managing EHS programs
Excellent interpersonal and communication (including excellent verbal and writing skills)
Proficient in using Microsoft business applications and possess strong PC skills,
Problem solving and analytical skills
Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines within standards,
Adaptable and flexible with the ability to accept, create and manage change,
Proven ability to positively influence to drive results in achieving goals and objectives.

Physical and Mental:

Must be able to periodically rotate to 2nd and 3rd shifts (to perform audits). Must be able to travel frequently to other operating sites.
 Anticipated Domestic travel: 25%
