Position Description
The Sr. Director of Tax Research and Planning directs the research, planning, advice and strategic counsel on all tax matters of the Company.  Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Tax Planning and International, the position manages a team of two direct reports and is based out of the Company’s Secaucus, NJ, headquarters.

Leadership for the international tax area, providing tax advice and counsel in regard to the company’s overseas operations and transactions worldwide
Direct the tax research, planning, advice and counsel on all US federal and state & local tax matters, including strategic management and technical counsel for the transaction tax (e.g.; sales & use, property, payroll) functions
Responsible for all tax aspects of our mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and other deals (e.g.: dispositions, joint ventures, licensing arrangements, etc.) throughout the life cycle of the transaction (structuring, due diligence, contract drafting and review, integration)
Provide expert counsel to other corporate functions and business units on the tax aspects of various contracts, agreements and other business arrangements
Provide expert technical tax counsel to the human resources and legal groups regarding executive compensation and employee benefits and payroll matters
Participate in the management of the tax financial accounting function including tax reserves, tax balances, the tax provision, the effective rate and deferred taxes, particularly as it pertains to the international and M&A areas
Management of the US federal and international tax examination process, in particular, in developing strategies for handling large controversial issues and international tax issues
Oversee the tax return compliance function and tax regulatory requirements (e.g.: Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls), particularly outside the US
Identify opportunities and develop improvements to create a more efficient tax process environment
Maintain expert status on US and international tax rules and regulations, technology advances and best practices and provide input to the tax team, other corporate functions and business units about relevant tax law changes
Collaborate with the Executive Director, Tax and the Vice President, Tax in the above areas and in the overall management of the tax function, particularly in the international and M&A areas, setting priorities and goals and executing the function’s business plan
On a project by project basis, supervise both external resources (law and accounting firm members, other tax service providers) and internal resources (such as other members of the tax team). A key player in the mentoring and development of these tax team members
