At Quest Diagnostics Incorporated, we understand urgency. But more than speed, we focus our energies on accuracy. Currently, we seek a Surgical Pathologist, with training and expertise in cytopathology for our AmeriPath Mid-Atlantic/Nichols Institute lab in Chantilly, Virginia.   

JOB SUMMARY:

 

We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Staff Pathologist with surgical pathology and dermatopathology or cytopathology interest or training for our AmeriPath MidAtlantic/Nichols Institute lab in Chantilly VA.  This position will be responsible for AP/CP Pathology as part of the Chantilly based AmeriPath and Esoteric Business Unit.  We currently have ten pathologists in place in Chantilly, and the new pathologist will be reporting directly to the Medical Director of Anatomic Pathology in Chantilly, VA.  This position will be part of the call schedule for occasional weekend coverage.

Reporting directly to the Medical Director are nine additional AmeriPath Pathologists and support staff.  The business is focused on providing both routine outpatient anatomic pathology services and esoteric services for both outpatient practices and hospitals, including hematopathology, molecular pathology, surgical pathology and both gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytopathology ). 

Responsibilities:

•         Perform review of anatomic pathology patient samples and quality control and assurance documents.

•         Perform review of clinical pathology results and quality control and assurance documents.

•         Participate in departmental professional Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities, e.g. Pathologist Competency Assessment Program.

•         Regularly interact with potential and existing clients by phone and/or face-to-face meetings to improve customer satisfaction as part of the sales, account relation and business development processes and to convey the Values, Vision and Mission of AmeriPath/Quest Diagnostics.

•         Comply with all AmeriPath/Quest Diagnostics policies including but not limited to the following:

•         Observe all policies in “Your Compliance Policy Handbook”

•         Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patients, physicians, employees, clients, vendors, and the company.

•         Assist AmeriPath/Quest Diagnostics in professional liaison with professional societies concerned with clinical laboratory medicine.  This includes professional medical associations, governmental agencies, and other

•         Regulatory bodies concerned with the nature and scope of clinical laboratory business.

•         Cooperate in the client support (both internal and external) of the laboratory by consulting with existing and potential external clients regarding services to be provided.

•         Assist AmeriPath/Quest Diagnostics in assuring that all publications and promotional literature distributed by marketing and sales is clinically relevant, accurate and up-to-date.

•         Oversee and assure the quality of professional performance of subordinate pathologists, and to institute appropriate quality assurance review practices to monitor professional performance.

•         Responsible for duties as a department head for one or more sections of the lab, e.g. Molecular Oncology, including assisting in the selection, training and performance management of departmental employees, authoring and/or approval of local QA/QC policies, review of QC and Proficiency Testing results, and other duties as assigned by the Medical/Laboratory Director.


Experience:

               

•         AP/CP Pathologist with 3 + years’ experience sign-out post fellowship

•         Experience within a laboratory setting

•         Strong customer focus and understanding of AP/CP

Desired Candidate Profile:

 

  • We require a Medical Degree (MD) with US Board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
  • We desire the successful candidate to have additional subspecialty training and/or fellowship training in either surgical pathology, Dermatopathology or cytopathology.
  • The successful candidate must hold or be able to obtain a valid unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of VA.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a NYS COQ in histopathology as well as potentially a few others.
