Job Summary

Provides direction for the troubleshooting and technical operation of laboratory instrumentation and assay methodologies, also serves as an expert resource to support the functions of the laboratory technologists.  Responsibilities include finding solutions to technically related customer concerns, working along the research and developing group on developing and implementing method modifications.

Job Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the research, evaluation, validation and implementation of new laboratory instruments.
  • Acts as a proponent of new technology and more efficient operations.
  • Responsible for identification, evaluation, validation and implementation of cost-savings initiatives and process improvements.
  • Leads technical development of analytical methods.
  • Author and review technical documents for regulatory submissions.
  • Responsible for accuracy of technical information in laboratory procedures.
  • Provides technical and educational support to lab staff, students for laboratory protocols and procedures.
  • Collaborates with laboratory directors in gathering and analyzing data to improve laboratory processes and for publication
  • Coordinate and initiate repairs, upgrades, and preventative maintenance, in partnership with   Operations and R&D, of assays
  • Lead SOP development of all documentation outlining repair processes assigned to assays.
  • Develop, plan and execute proactive approaches to optimize and modify existing tests and improve assay efficiencies
  • Maintain quantitative measurements of assay health
  • Other technical product development duties as assigned by Scientific manager

Job Requirements

  • MS required in Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline; PhD preferred
  • 10+yrs experience in laboratory environment operating commercial assays under regulatory control
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to protocols to meet product requirements and optimal specification
  • Ability to exercise critical thinking and independent judgment
  • Significant training and hands-on skills with assay analyses using multiple techniques (PCR, sequencing, etc.) and understanding and experience in applying real-time PCR quantification and assay development are required. Hands-on experience with automation is a plus.
  • The candidate should be able to work independently or under minimal supervision to design and conduct experiments, as well as interpret, document, and communicate results.
  • The candidate will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and be highly self-motivated and eager to learn.
  • The candidate must be willing to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and be capable of handling multiple tasks while meeting timelines.
