Basic Purpose:

The Forensic Scientist II works within the Forensic Toxicology Laboratory and cooperates with and responds to direction from the Supervisor and/or Group Lead on achieving work objectives.  This position reports to and is managed and evaluated by the Department Supervisor.  This position has analytical, equipment and data interpretation responsibilities, and may release non-chromatographic results.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Maintain proficiency in all principle duties of a Forensic Scientist I.

2. Assist in troubleshooting of all analytical test methods and/or instrumentation utilized in the area of responsibility.

3. Actively participate in development and implementation of process improvements within the area of responsibility.

4. Participate in periodic or new method validation.

5. Participate in quality assurance activities.

6. Maintain acceptable productivity & quality levels, and notify Supervisor and/or Group Lead of equipment or production problems.

7. Capable of applying laboratory acceptance criteria in the interpretation of test results.

8. Maintain acceptable productivity & quality levels, and notify Supervisor and/or Group Lead of equipment or production problems.

9. Assist with oversight and training of department employees as necessary.

10. Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised: 


Education Preferred: 

 Bachelor of Science or Art degree with a minimum of fifteen (15) semester hours in Chemistry, fifteen (15) semester hours in Biology, and three (3) semester hours of Mathematics; or applicable regulatory requirements

Work Experience: 
• Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years laboratory experience.
• Knowledge of methods and procedures used by the laboratory.

Physical and Mental: 
• Ability to perform routine and repetitive motions, such as pipetting
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time

• General PC knowledge and data analysis
• Previous experience troubleshooting comparable instrumentation and/or methods
