Position Description

The Bioinformatics Program Director serves as the technology thought leader for Quest’s Advanced Diagnostics franchises, defining the scientific/technology vision, strategy and roadmap supporting the Oncology franchise products. This person will be responsible for integration, delivery and operations of the various technology components and personnel that need to come together to support the particular franchise products.




•       Serve as the technology subject matter expert and a strategic thought partner for the Oncology franchise to help define product/feature scope and execution strategy

•       Laser focused on understanding and representing the voice of the franchise/stakeholder-base

•       Identify and pursue opportunities for innovation, collaboration, acquisition

•       Align stakeholders around the vision of the technology solutions

•       See through the conception, execution, implementation, and training

•       Be accountable by working closely with the research, development, operations teams as well as technical product managers/owners, serving an integrator role, and as the single point of contact with the franchise business partners

•       Communicate clearly with product teams and business stakeholders

•       Create synergistic, collaborative, and empowered teams

•       Negotiate and prioritize solution features and capabilities

•       Negotiate pricing for underlying technologies or dependencies

•       Define or contribute to definition of user stories

•       Minimize risk and plan to avoid single points of failures for the franchise 

•       Escalates issues as appropriate


•       Bachelor’s degree in the fields of Life Sciences, IT, Computer Science or other related areas

•       10 years of work experience or 8 years with a master’s degree or 6 years with a Ph.D. developing and managing production-grade NGS-based bioinformatics workflows spanning sample intake, analysis, annotation, reporting & to delivery of results, LIMS and other expert systems

•       3 years software engineering experience

•       CAP/CLIA experience preferred

•       Large volume (exome or whole genome) bioinformatics pipeline development experience preferred

•       AWS cloud experience preferred

•       Ph.D. preferred

•       Specific experience in Oncology – somatic and germline

•       Understanding of software product development best practices

•       Effective communication skills – with both technical and business stakeholders

•       Understanding of Agile philosophy
