Schedule: Sunday, 6:00AM-2:30PM
Monday-Thursday, 10:00AM-6:30PM

The Asst. Lab II in the Immunology/Serology Department is responsible for performing all clerical and secretarial duties within the department: must use Universal Precautions while logging-in potentially biohazardous specimens for Serology; prepares the majority of computer worksheets for logged-in samples as appropriate; must know all pertinent computer functions; handles the majority of in-coming phone calls that pertain to type and amount of specimen and test codes and properly directs other calls to the correct person or area; locates missing specimens according to established procedures; locates and completes add-ons; tracks existing warehouse inventory and orders additional supplies weekly or as needed; must be physically able to unpack and to store or to deliver to the appropriate area(s) reagents and supplies; files computer worksheets daily; must be able to prepare worksheets and quality control records for long-term archival storage; supports the Technical Director and Technical Supervisor by copy work as needed; checks pending lists as appropriate; trains new employees on the proper use of telephones/computers; and helps to maintain the overall physical aspects of the department in a neat and sanitary manner. The incumbent actively supports and complies with all company and departmental policies and procedures.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1.       Contributes to Quest Diagnostics mission by assuring that all Lab Aide duties are performed accurately and on time.
  2.       Knows what tests are performed in Serology in order to handle in-coming phone calls and requests for specimens for add-ons.
  3.      Has an understanding of basic computer functions necessary for the efficient completion of assigned duties.
  4.       Performs clerical aspects of testing (daily filing of worksheets; monthly archiving of worksheets and quality control data) to assure easy retrieval.
  5.       Assists technical staff by maintaining sufficient warehouse supplies; orders these supplies weekly or as needed.
  6.       Assists technical staff by accepting in-coming orders:  accounts accurately for all order components; unpacks and labels with received dates as appropriate; and distributes the goods to the designated section(s) within the department.
  7.       Performs assigned chores on a daily/regular basis: sort and log in IFA/EIA specimens; distributes mail/handouts to individual mailboxes; does copy work for Technical Director/Technical Supervisor/Senior Technologists.
  8.       Trains new employees as appropriate in the proper use of the telephone system, departmental computer systems, and other areas assigned by the supervisory staff.
  9.       Reports problems/potential problems to the supervisor(s).
10.       Must be a good team worker, have a good working relationship with technical staff, and communicate well with customers and with other Quest Diagnostics personnel; must adhere to precept of total customer service.
11.       Adheres to all established laboratory safety requirements.
12.       Required to use (a) personal protective equipment, (b) work practice controls as directed by management.
13.       Performs other job-related duties as assigned by competent authority.
