Position Description

Partners with the business and key leaders within the IT family and provides overall strategy, direction, guidance, and definition for architecture and execution of digital technology solutions to effectively support the overall business and digital transformation.  The Executive Director of Digital Services (DSD) leads multiple cross functional and enterprise-wide strategies. Responsibilities include researching, analyzing, designing, proposing, and delivering solutions that are appropriate for the business and technology strategies. Presents to senior leadership and represents IT in multiple business initiatives and strategies and. Leads and directs work in a hybrid environment.

Executive Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Digital Service Director (DSD) is responsible for the entire technology strategy and execution of a quadrant within our Digital Framework.   This role is focused on our IoT and Device solutions.  This responsibility is key to our new innovations and associated data strategies to drive business capabilities with connected devices.

  • The IoT and Device DSD will be a primary leader to support the Digital Execution Leader in POC execution and successful transition into a full released service.  This role is the liaison between digital technology strategy and digital execution.

  • Design and lead the Digital Innovation Council. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Define, develop, and evolve our IoT and Device strategy for the Quest Enterprise.

  • Execute the IoT and Device strategies using agile methodologies and partners.

  • Architecture and design on high-priority technology solutions in a hyper-agile SDLC.

  • Leveraging teams including architecture, data, design, and product managers to build execution roadmaps and capacity models to meet the goals of the initiative.

  • Drive and provide leadership to architect, innovate and execute POCs that can transition to product products without significant rework.

  • Lead the Digital Innovation Council to harvest ideas from the organization and abroad to enable new business opportunities.

  • Build and execute solutions including POC in accordance with enterprise blueprints, standards, and technology standards and roadmaps.

  • Resolving technical problems as they arise.

  • Providing supervision and guidance to development teams.

  • Lead architecture solutioning efforts, work closely with architects to ensure applications and technologies are developed and maintained within the context of the enterprise architecture.

  • Interfaces across several business areas, acting as visionary to proactively assist in defining the direction for future projects

  • Responsible for conception of solutions, building consensus, and the selling and execution of such solutions.

  • Designs complex systems at the component level, makes strategic technology choices, and directly supervise the quality of designs and implementation.

  • Participate and support the Architecture Advisory Board.

  • Will have a wide degree of creativity and latitude to management of highly skilled employee’s.

  • Will facilitate difficult problems (trouble shooting), design/support of new systems/configurations, vendor management, performance testing, capacity modeling and analysis, etc.

  • Conduct architecture reviews and audits.

  • Arbitrates disagreements among engineers and make decisions where needed

  • Coaches, mentors, and delegates to architects to facilitate their development.

  • Perform research needed to fully understand details of technologies being utilized by enterprise projects.

  • Integrate various architectures (both old and new) for effective high performance and high volume processing.

  • Evaluates vendor proposals for assigned projects with respect to conformance and consistency with IT standards.

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 


  • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent work experience required

  • Advanced degree preferred

  • Minimum 14+ years of IT work experience in multiple IT areas

  • 8+ years of relevant architecture experience

  • Proven extensive architecture planning, management and governance experience with legacy systems are a must.

  • Comfortably moves between highly varying levels of abstraction from business strategy to IT strategy to high-level technical design to detailed design to implementation.

  • Clearly documents and communicates objectives, requirements, and designs at these different levels of abstraction to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Quickly and reasonably estimates capital, schedule, and human resources costs of proposed solutions. Compares, contrasts, and prioritizes among alternatives approaches while assessing risk both quantitatively and qualitatively.

  • Uses seasoned judgment to suggest approaches that optimize among customer needs, business constraints, and technological realities.

  • Influences and communicates effectively with non-technical audiences including senior business executives and managers.

  • Proven management leadership skills.
