Candidate should be comfortable working end-to-end with data including requirements gathering, analysis, manipulation, blending and visualization. Ideal candidate will have big data familiarity, a can-do attitude with a burning desire and aptitude to learn and apply new technologies. 

The Biomedical Engineer, Business Intelligence (BEBI) will serve as a liaison between the subject matter expects (SME) and the Informatics development team. The role is part biomedical engineer and part business intelligence analyst. BEBI will analyse and understand the data in order to obtain and transform business requirements into functional and technical specifications that result in development of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), Data Models, Dashboards and Reports. Outside collaboration with vendors to examine custom and off-the-shelf software solutions and platforms for proposal to Operations is also expected.

The BEBI will assist with validation of reports to confirm it meets requirements. The biomedical specialist works independently, set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously. The biomedical engineer must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will be expected to keep departmental leads and lab management informed of his/her appraisal of hourly operational metrics.

We are looking for a BEBI who will be responsible for:

  • Connection and use of BI tools to generate reports and visualizations from large-scale data
  • Present analytics clearly, intuitively, and in a visual appealing manner
  • Test data generated by models and output data for correctness
  • Implement queries to prep and blend data for reporting and visualization
  • Examine, proof, and implement new software systems and technologies


  • Interview business users to gather requirements for reports, extracts, dashboards, and critical to customer (CTC) requirements.
  • Working in junction with Business stakeholders, identify and assess potential data sources.
  • Help business stakeholders formulate in-depth actionable insights that can be derived with the different data, such as dock to results, throughput, quality, clinical and operational.
  • Candidate should be comfortable developing reporting and analytics with no existing roadmap.
  • Translate business requirements into visualizations that provide actionable insights to stakeholders and empower decision making.
  • Develop KPIs and perform quantitative analysis based on an understanding of both business objectives and complex data models.
  • Implement agreed upon solutions to documented business needs and provide ongoing support for those solutions.
  • Drive ideas and projects by communicating the strategic value for the organization to leadership.
  • Create well-written, clear, concise and accurate documentation, including functional specifications, mapping documents and process diagrams, report/dashboard development etc.
  • Analyse and interpret data in existing databases to support projects and resolve data issues, summarize for performance metrics and insights.
  • Self-starter with strong sense of ownership and ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, and as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem solving and conceptual thinking abilities.
  • Examination of external software and/or platforms for application into production/operations.
  • Support development of infrastructure for capturing and processing of machine data for analytics and insights.

  • Ability to provide functional and data requirement documents together with Data Architects.
  • Having healthcare data experience is plus.
  • Must be a team player, able to work with people within and outside of the organization.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written as well as exemplary organizational skills 
  • Experience with and tolerance for high levels of challenge and change.
  • Previous experience leading or managing teams.
  • Experience creating custom reports and dashboards.
  • Ability to travel as needed.


  • B.S. in Engineering, Biotechnology or Science field with at least 5-7 years of experience. 
  • A degree in biomedical engineering/ biotechnology or related discipline is highly preferred. 
  • 2-3 years of experience in a lead role or leading teams
  • Excel power usage and visualization


  • Experience converting ambiguous business needs to scalable data models and datasets.
  • Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Alteryx).
  • Experience with Relational Databases (SQL) and data warehouse environments
  • Statistics experience.
  • Specific experience in manufacturing and quality systems in cGMP or highly regulated environments, primarily related to medical or healthcare industries.
  • Lean and Six Sigma exposure preferred, Green or Black Belt a plus.
  • Ability to codify learnings into organizational best practices.


  • This position may require cross-functional leadership of peer engineers, clients, OEMs, and contractors in order to meet project goals and deadlines. There may be direct supervisory requirements.
  • The role must demonstrate the ability to lead and assign tasks, deliverables and deadlines to team members with responsibility to motivate the team and ensure completion.


  • Manual dexterity adequate to handle small tools requiring intricate manipulations of small pieces in confined areas.
  • Must pass color blindness screening.
  • Must be able to react to auditory warnings and messages.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Will require prolonged period of standings in addition to bending, stooping, reaching & squatting.
  • Significant desk work on a computer.
