The various technical lab jobs each support Quest Diagnostics’ laboratory functions and play an essential role in the services we provide. Technical lab employees are responsible for properly handling specimens, running tests and analyses, reporting results to clients and patients, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety procedures.

Laboratorists

Cytotechnologist

Cytotechnologists are responsible for microscopically examining and diagnosing gynecologic and non-gynecologic slides for infectious, pre-malignant, and malignant disease processes. This role requires specimen integrity, confidentiality, and great attention to detail.

Histotechnologist

Histotechnologists perform an array of routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists. Histotechnologists ensure proper tissue processing, perform microtomy of embedded tissue, perform all special stain procedures, and prepare solutions and reagents for IHC procedures.

Medical technologist (MT I) Clinical lab scientist (CLS I)

Medical technologists are responsible for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, and reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. He or she must adhere to the laboratory’s established quality control policies and safety guidelines, as well as identify and correct any problems that may adversely affect test performance.
