Purpose of the Role –
Summary
In a complex, medical environment, the Technical LIS Specialist is responsible for maintaining enterprise-wide database files on the Laboratory Information System and working with hospital LIS Coordinators and programming personnel to coordinate implementation of test database information and corresponding reporting and billing systems. The LIS Tech Specialist has the experience needed to understand medical terminology and complex test build procedures, requiring independent judgment and minimal supervision.
Responsibility Areas
Writes and maintains standard IT SOPs to include new location builds and validations, test file builds and modifications, platform interface test plans and validations, and transfusion medicine truth table builds/modifications to include documentation, approval and storage requirements
Establishes and Facilitates IT Best Practice Team (BPT) to coordinate enterprise-wide activities and drive standardization
Manages IT Coordinator workload and project implementation; removes barriers and ensures quality outcomes
Identifies and manages System IT Projects and coordinates with the Laboratory Tech Specialists on timing and milestones
Ensures standardization of enterprise-wide test databases and other projects
Develops monthly IT audit/surveillance schedule and reviews outputs for accuracy
Ensures CAP IT readiness at all locations and collaborates on deficiency resolution
Ensures corporate updates are implemented at all sites as expected
Ensures LIS Coordinator assignments to team meetings and/or platform projects
Builds and tests database for all new assays
Helps build and test compendium for referral interfaces
Translates and interprets specifications, insuring the accuracy and completeness of test result forms data entry and timely flow of system data through accessioning, laboratory, client services, billing, and client test code inquiry
Facilitates QC review of database test builds to ensure correct resulting and reporting as specified by technical department supervisors, managers, directors and medical personnel.
Data pulls and analytics across enterprise to facilitate Lab Stewardship, patient outcomes, process changes, and other data needs
Serves as a liaison between lab services, laboratory technical and IT programming personnel to coordinate changes for new and improved testing to include equipment interface
Lead on ensuring billing files are provided to Quest monthly:
Collates and provides billing NPR files out of Meditech or Clinical Billing;Works with hospitals to manage questions from Blood bank and Microbiology
Liason between Controllers and Quest PLS for billing questions/concerns and troubleshooting bill questions/concerns
Leads and collaborates on resolution of billing issues
Physical Demands
Physical activities include frequent walking, sitting,
bending, lifting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting and squatting. The ability to lift up to 30 lbs. in weight
to a height of 5 feet and carrying moderately light loads for a distance of 50
feet. Color vision is required for
accuracy in work. Atmosphere and
environment associated with a clinical laboratory setting – toxic and/or
hazardous chemicals/specimens with unpleasant odors
Ability to flex and
work on projects/train on all shifts.
Qualifications
Experience, Education, and Licensure
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, with ASCP
certification; subsequent to graduation, three to six (3 - 6) years of
pertinent, full-time laboratory experience in a Core laboratory or Hospital.
Advanced education will be counted towards years of experience. MBA or IT related course work preferred.
Prior LIS data management and/or test file experience required
Microsoft skills including: Advanced Excel, Database builds and management, Word

Annual Wage Estimate: $84,800 to $152,500
