Job Description

PhenoPath Laboratories, a Quest Diagnostics Company, is a national reference laboratory located in Seattle, WA that is committed to rendering diagnoses you can count on; with sub-specialty expertise in both Hematopathology and Solid tumor pathology.  

Position Description

PhenoPath Laboratories is recruiting a full-time Hematopathologist with at least 3-5 years of attending-level experience. The successful candidate will participate in sign-out of clinical flow cytometry and consultative hematopathology cases, interpretation of directed laboratory testing and evaluation of material associated with research activities for biopharma, a growth area of PhenPath’s business.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:  

•         Experience with using histology, cytology, histochemistry/special stains, IHC, flow cytometry, PCR, chromogenic in situ hybridization, and FISH to render primary and consultative Hematopathology diagnoses.

•         Function in a collegial manner with pathologists/hematopathologists, including occasional participation in the Saturday flow cytometry on call responsibilities, coordinating time away from PhenoPath to ensure adequate service coverage, and providing timely review of difficult cases when a second opinion is sought.

•         Assume a leadership role in PhenoPath’s Flow Cytometry Laboratory or Immuno-histochemistry Laboratory, with participation in medical oversight of laboratory operations, new antibody validations, proficiency testing, etc.

•         Is available to customers, client services, and staff for client consultations.

•         Participation on PhenoPath committees, review and development of PhenoPath informational/marketing materials, presentations to staff and PhenoPath clients, and manuscript presentation. 

•         As appropriate, interface with other pathologists or scientists at Quest Diagnostics

•         Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patients, employees, clients, vendors, and the company.

•         Contribute to the execution and reporting of hematopathology-related contract research projects.

•         Maintain appropriate licensing/accreditation and keep abreast of the literature related to hematopathology via participation in professional organizations/conferences and accumulating adequate CME/SAM hours for licensing.

•         Support the medical director in maintaining a safe work environment.

•         Perform other assigned duties or tasks on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications:

•         Board certification in anatomic and/or clinical pathology

•         Fellowship training and board certification in Hematopathology

•         3-5 years post-fellowship sign out experience

•         Excellent working knowledge of flow cytometric and immunohistochemical techniques; proficiency with other laboratory techniques, including fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) desired.
