Diagnostic Laboratory of Oklahoma - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - 7:30am-4:00pm Monday-Friday

Main Duties: The Supervisor has the responsibility for the planning, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of all technical and/or operational activities and staff members.  This position is responsible for performing duties to operate the lab with the highest quality, safety and integrity, and in an efficient, economical and businesslike manner. Plans, assigns and directs work in the laboratory, to include oversight of staff schedules and payroll duties. Mentors and supports employees in their responsibilities in QC, testing, and ensures they receive training in supervisory skill development.  Ensures quality control and compliance procedures are followed. Oversees staffing of all technical and phlebotomy personnel in the laboratory.  Reviews test performance, instrument validations, drives process and project management, and prepares and submits required reports to meet established deadlines. Resolves problems through interaction with clients.  Provides resources and guidance to Physicians in relation to test ordering options. Coordinates and monitors EHS programs. 

Must be able to work closely with Manager, DLO QA, blood bank supervisor and all other company departments to ensure compliance with Quest/DLO expectations.

Able to meet Hospital Administration needs as required including various committee
meetings throughout the month. 

Required to be available for all technical and service issues for a 24/7 hospital laboratory.

Required Knowledge: BS degree in Medical Technology to meet CLIA standards for a laboratory supervisor.
  Applicant must demonstrate a broad knowledge of the technical aspects of the tests performed in all areas of the laboratory.  Applicant should demonstrate a willingness to stay abreast of the latest innovations in test methodologies. Varied shifts to meet staffing needs.

Required Experience: Minimum – 5 years in a clinical laboratory; 2 years supervisory experience preferred, but not required

Special Requirement: MT(ASCP) or equivalent certification.   Must demonstrate interpersonal skills to attain cooperation with other departments and foster continuous improvements.  Must be flexible and available based on staffing requirements, including weekends, nights and holidays. Demonstrates excellent organizational and communication skills and be able to address client concerns and employees in a professional manner.  Makes independent decisions and handles multiple priorities in a high volume setting.  Able to organize and lead projects both within the work group and with cross-functional groups.

JOB SUMMARY:
 Responsible for the scheduling and supervision of the non-exempt lab personnel on multiple shifts. Accountable for quantity and quality of specimens handled and test results. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversees staff and activities of the department, distributes/assigns work; determines priorities; schedules non-routine procedures; performs personnel related functions (hiring, firing, discipline, training, etc.). 
2. Performs advanced/specialized tests and other related laboratory techniques. May duplicate work of others to confirm test results. Re-evaluates methodology, makes recommended changes and assists in test interpretation. Determines if further testing should be done on samples or if test should be repeated. 
3. Checks/approves all specialized and problem reports for accuracy. 
4. Initiates quality-control measures and monitors quality of work for adherence to laboratory standards.
5. Performs duties of technologist as necessitated by absence or peak workload.
6. Completes special projects as requested, e. g., surveys, statistical reports, studies, research, etc.

Education: BS MT preferred Work Experience: 5+ years Other: Experience in a laboratory environment.
