Executive Director, Commercial Training & Development

Position Description

The Executive Director (ESD) will drive alignment and process around sales strategy, training & performance.  The ESD will design, plan, and execute training and development programs for the Commercial team to include: ESDs, SDs, and all rep and role types. S/He will be responsible for creating and managing a fully integrated (specialty and clinical testing) commercial sales training and development program within Quest Diagnostics.  The ESD will also direct the assessment of needs within the Commercial organization and the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs that facilitate the professional development and continuous learning of the Commercial team. 

This role provides thought leadership as well as hands on execution of design, program and vendor management, and training delivery. This role also partners with deployed leaders, enterprise-wide learning and development colleagues within Quest, as well as Human Resources in order to integrate learning and development initiatives with talent management and other focused developmental initiatives. Additionally, this person is responsible for the performance management and career development of 2 national directors and their assigned teams of national and regional trainers.



Franchise National & Classroom Curricula  

•         Responsible for sales effectiveness training, methodology and delivery mechanisms.

•         Ensures effective partnering and planning for training focus to accurately reflect needs of franchise sales priorities and ensures all training correlates to growth priorities.

Regional Field Training Skills Application

•         Ensures national classroom training has measurable enablement processes and expectations driven by deployed regional field trainers.

•         Responsible for effectively partnering with regional commercial leaders to understand and as appropriate develop training to meet their unique regional needs.


Leadership development for ESDs and SDs

•         Responsible for developing and delivering training programs focused on leadership effectiveness, performance management, employee engagement and driving commercial performance. Examples are:  New Hire Sales Director Training, Sales Director Accelerator events, Annual Leadership meeting, virtual development elective workshops for leaders.

National Sales Meetings/Leadership Summit Meetings

•         Drives coaching, facilitation, and direction for focused learning, train-the-trainers, core curriculum, etc.

•         Ensures full involvement of CLC team (Directors, NTMs, RTMs) in all aspects of planning, development, and delivery of the annual National Sales Meeting and other commercial training meetings, as needed.


Hospital credentialing program

•         Directly manages hospital credentialing process for commercial to include contracting, procurement submissions and reviews, and vendor performance management with Vendormate.

Distance and e-Learning

•         Effectively drives all aspects of Commercial Qualifications Standards program for the Commercial team.

•         Leads the development and execution of the Franchise Virtual Continuous Learning curriculum.

•         Ensures the deployment of a comprehensive eLearning strategy.

•         Manages the development, delivery, and execution expectations for eLearning content with internal stakeholders such as Marketing, Franchise, Commercial Operations and Operations.

•         Plans and executes virtual elective workshops throughout the year for rep development.

•         Plans and executes one cohort of the Emerging Leaders program per year.


Commercial Advisory Council

•         Manages the nomination of commercial members to the Commercial Advisory Council

•         Plans and executes periodic meetings/workshops throughout the year.

•         Ensures the Commercial Advisory Council is leveraged throughout the Commercial organization.

•         Knowledge of lab industry, physician, health systems and health plans
