QuestDirect (Consumer Initiated Testing)

  • Consumer initiated testing (QuestDirect) allows patients to purchase their own laboratory tests without going to a doctor

  • This is a rapidly evolving and growing aspect of the Quest franchise portfolio

  • QuestDirect provides consumers access to a diverse menu of forty- five tests and we are continually optimizing our offerings. Currently available options range from a Basic Health Profile to COVID-19 Immune Response testing

  • With QuestDirect, patients can select, purchase, and pay for tests online; manage their testing appointment online; get easy-to-understand results through their secure MyQuest™ account; and discuss any questions with a medical professional

Position Description

The Director of Marketing is responsible for the direct-to-consumer (DTC) product positioning and messaging for Quest’s consumer-initiated-testing product portfolio, including QuestDirect. The Director will lead DTC marketing, including development of marketing strategies, campaigns, partnerships and activations based on insights from the Executive Director, Consumer Marketing and DTC business partners.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and implement comprehensive marketing strategies to drive the DTC business based on deep understanding of the personal diagnostics consumer

  • Direct integrated campaigns that will deliver an increase in conversion rates, overall order size and managing margin performance across a variety of product lines

  • Maintain a strong level of insight into the Consumer’s core business drivers

  • Distill Consumer data and analytics into highly effective campaigns and other deliverables

  • Provide voice of Consumer into the strategic planning process

  • Have clear understanding of Consumer industry trends and drivers, as well as competitive landscape, to inform strategic marketing initiatives across target Consumer segments

  • Develop and implement Consumer-specific strategic marketing plan including tactical programming recommendations and investment requirements to maximize opportunities for MROI

  • Supervise and mentor team members and provide guidance and serve as thought leader for internal business partners

  • Lead creative development and ideation and effectively package and present for buy-in

  • Plan and execute campaigns related to new and existing products and solutions for new and emerging consumer channels

  • Direct market research to keep abreast of trends and competitor’s marketing movements

  • Control budgets and allocate resources across projects

  • Manage external vendors & agency partners

  • Lead cross-functional teams


  • Bachelor’s Degree is required; MBA or equivalent is preferred

  • 5+ years DTC experience preferred

  • Minimum 10+ years success in a marketing role

  • Direct people leadership experience preferred                     

  • Up to 25% business travel required

  • Team oriented – ability to lead diverse, cross functional teams and in a matrix environment

  • Excellent project leadership skills to ensure execution

  • Superior communication skills including ability to deliver formal business presentations to executive leadership

  • Initiative – ability to independently problem solve and find resolutions
